Xavier's POV
"Where have you been all day?" father asks curiously but forcefully.
"I was investigating new forms of wolfsbane in the library. I didn't think you'd mind" I reply evenly.
I had been anticipating the question and had of course built up a suitable response in my head.
"Of course not" he replied with narrowed eyes.
Quickly dismissing the matter he stands from his throne and begins to exit the hall. As soon as the heavy golden doors have closed behind him I am able to let out a breath of relief. Something about that man that I call my father could put the fear of God into anyone around him. Including me.
Yet, no matter how powerful this fear is I can not let myself succumb to its mighty grasp. I told Emma that I would keep her secret, so that's what I'll do.Emma's POV
The school has become a castle of festering whispers since my secret was revealed. When I walk through the hallways, every gaze seems to flick towards me. Voices carry rumours of both the truth and the lies throughout the school like a virus. The effect was unavoidable. I knew that people would react badly to the news. Yet, unlike my immediate presumption, not a single soul even considers explaining the source of the gossip to the teachers. Of course several of my classes had begun with questioning at the beginning of the day. I've heard people say that the King is beginning to think that we are starting a revolt. Due to this, the amount of detentions, punishments and general brutality has increased ten fold. Shade wants to remind us of his superiority.
However, I am not alone in my fear. As the day finally comes to an end I can see that the gazes that I catch as I make my way down the hallway are no longer filled with question or annoyance. They are filled with something even worse. Trust.
Everyone is now looking to me to do something about what is happening to them. But I hate to break it to them, I have no idea where to start."Emma" a voice catches my attention.
I look from my place leaning against my locker to find James staring down at me with confusion.
"You do realise that everyone is talking about you behind your back right?" He asks.
I huff in defeat and slam my locker door shut with a soul rattling thud.
"Yes James. I realise that everyone thinks I'm a disappointment and that its my fault for everything they're going through" I huff out through my crossed arms.
"Oh no, that's not what I meant Emma" he says, putting his hands on both my upper arms to try to reassure me.
Before he can continue I start to walk down the hallway away from him and all the other whisperers in the hallway. However, he quickly walks ahead of me, talking over his shoulder.
"What I meant is that everyone is talking about the meeting tonight" he reprieves.
My feet immediately bury themselves into the ground, making me come to an abrupt halt. James looks back at me questioningly before walking back a few steps to face me.
"What the hell do you mean 'meeting'?" I ask anxiously.
The raise in my voice catches his attention, making his eyes widen in realisation.
"You didn't call the meeting did you?" He asks as though it is a statement rather than a question.
"Again, what meeting?!?!" I ask even louder and more frustrated.
