The distant sky was filling up fast with the approaching mass of black and red clouds. I watched in horror as they reached all the way up the everlasting length of the space above.
"What the hell?" I whimpered.
"You caused this, outlander! And now he comes for you!" Rachel grouched. My baby was still in her arms.
"Do you ever shut up with your holy roller shit?" I questioned harshly.
Rachel shot me a glare.
"Once he takes you, it will all be righted. Peace will be with us again. Your evil will be rid of this happy place, once and for all!" She declared, shoving her index finger at me.
"You only wish it was that easy! It's not only me he wants! It's not just Malachai he blames! It's all of you he's going to take his revenge on! We're all going to die if we don't do something!" I shot back.
Rachel ignored me and continued to watch the black clouds in the sky in awe. How was she so calm? So BLIND?! I was about to go off on her until I heard the commotion happening in front of me.
Malachai and Issac were still battling for control over the knife and Malachai had just managed to pry it from Issac's hands. The redhead immediately plunged the knife into Issac's heart, causing him to let out an ear shattering roar.
"Malachai, you moron! You will never be forgiven!" Issac bellowed as he clutched his chest.
"It was you that grew apart from the group, Issac! You lost sight of what our lord was all about! Just look around us, does it look like He Who Walks Behind the Rows is interested in your ceremonies? He's come to shed some blood, that is what he is the God of!" Malachai exclaimed.
Issac didn't respond, he was loosing too much blood from his heart and body now to function.
*THUMP**THUMP**THUMP*
The beating of Issac's heart could be heard on the wind throughout the clearing. It started off as a fast paced beat, but it quickly faded away into slow faint ones and then nothing at all. With one last near silent beat, Issac's head collapsed on the ground and his eyes closed. He was dead. Again.
But that didn't stop Malachai from yanking the knife from his chest and slamming it into his neck, forehead, stomach, groin, both knees, everywhere. As he did this, the oh so familiar malicious expression on his face returned. The old Malachai...had returned. I knew that face....he was starving for some blood to spill....
When he was finished hacking Issac's body to pieces, the ginger stood up, knife still in hand and eyed all of the kids. His back was to me.
"Issac was tainted! He's been feeding us lies the entire time about our Lord! He Who Walks Behind the Rows has been angered, it is Issac's fault this has happened! And now we all are going to pay for it! Everyone get to the old couple's barn!" He preached, pointing in the direction with his blade.
All of the kids began to shuffle quickly through the rows towards my grandparent's barn, where this whole bloodbath had originally started.
But the corn still held me firmly in place as the kids left without me. Rachel gave me a lasting death stare before following the others, still holding my little girl.
They were going to just leave me here to die?! Had Malachai been so consumed with rage that he'd forgotten about me?! Or did he think I'd gotten away? Or....did he know I was right here and was going to let me die...? I didn't know, or care. But I wasn't about to be left to become a victim of the smoke monster in the sky that had ceased to disappear even after demon Issac's death.
