As Thalia walked down the hall of her high school, she got sideward glances from people as she walked past them. She was wearing her "Death to Barbie" Tank top, her army jacket, and her ripped jeans and combat boots. Her hair was shaved down at the sides and long at the top, a blue streak piercing the raven black of her natural hair color. Of course everyone would look at her weird. They thought she was a punk. Which she was...but she was more than that. But would anyone ever see past her image? No. Would anyone even care to find out what's underneath? No. But she didn't care. She was a loner anyways. Always had been. She went to her locker and got out her math books, for that was her first period class. She stuck a picture of her brother, Jason, on the inside of her locker. She hadn't seen him in years. She missed him. He had run away when he was young, and never came back. At first, her mom claimed that it was "just a phase" and that he'd come back, but she knew he wouldn't. All she could do, was look at the picture, and long for the day she could see him again. She pushed her emotions down and shut her locker.
Thalia walked into her Math class and sat down in the back corner of the room. She put down her books and sat in the chair leisurely, waiting for the bell to ring. Today was the first day of school, and she knew there would be a seating chart, but she thought that she might as well be comfortable while she could. The bell rang, and a group of students, slowly funneled into the classroom. They talked with their friends a bit, and by the time the second bell rang, everyone was seated, waiting for instructions. The teacher announced the seating chart, and everyone moved to their new seats sluggishly. As Thalia moved to her seat and sat down, a girl with a long, tight braid sat next to her. She didn't look over. She didn't want to look over. She couldn't look over. She was afraid that if she looked over, she would make a friend. She didn't want to get attached to anyone, for fear that she would hurt them. Then the teacher began to talk. Of. Course. Why did she have to talk? At that point, she had no idea how much that teacher would change her life, just by moving her to a seat.
