We reached Dan's place quickly, Simon knocked, and to my surprise, the knocking system had changed drastically. The old rhythm, short but obvious, had been replaced by a longer, more intricate one. Dan opened the door ever so slightly and scanned our faces, letting us in as soon as he recognised us, which didn't take long.

Dan's place didn't smell like drugs until you got into his bedroom, where pretty much everything was stored, sorted, bagged and all that. We sat down on the couch in the living room and it was almost as if Dan could sense what had happened because he brought out what I used to get from him, way heavier stuff than just for a couple spliffs.
