A New Chance

Chapter 1

"I would like to thank everyone for coming here tonight and celebrating our 10th anniversary of our law firm," Neal says as he's holding a glass of champagne. I see him and my do I admire him so much.

We have gone through so much. We've been together since we were 18 and got married at that age so he could have the stability to be successful. It hasn't been easy living this life but I don't see myself anywhere else. "And I couldn't have done it without my beautiful wife Emma." I smile as I blow a kiss to him.

"And Tonight we celebrate 12 years of marriage." Everyone claps and cheers. "So I say that deserves a toast." Everyone grabs their glasses and drinks. Neal comes down and gives me a kiss. The celebration continued and we are on our way home. I lean in to kiss Neal and he pulls away.

I sigh. There is just one problem to our marriage, these past few months it doesn't even feel like I'm married. We walk into our mansion and I want to hug him and he walks away. I sigh as I follow him into our master bedroom. I try again to hug him and he pulls away.

"Just because we were a happy married couple in the  gala doesn't mean we still are." I sigh. "But Neal It's our anniversary tonight, I had something special planned for us." He sighs. "I have to go I'll see you later tonight." I sigh. "Neal But it's....." I say but didn't even finish my sentence because he had already left the room.

I went to go change and laid on my empty bed. It's our anniversary yet we aren't spending the night together. Well I guess some marriages aren't perfect right? I guess I have the luxury of living in a beautiful home even though I'm alone most of the time, but it wasn't always this way.

Before we got this mansion, I would cook, clean and do everything for him. We worked our way up to this place. Neal was different. I guess that's not a big deal huh? Eventually what I decided to do was to just sleep, who knows at what time Neal will get home.

Time passes by and it's morning. I reach my hand to the other side of the bed and it's empty. I get up and sighed. He never came home. It's the 10th time in two weeks that he's done this. My mind would always wonder if he's seeing someone else.

I mean it's logical but then again we've been together for so long, I've given him everything he wouldn't be seeing another woman. I get up and decided I would surprise him with lunch today at his law firm. I get up and walked into my walk in closet.

I stare at all my clothes and decided to wear a fitted black dress with black and gold heels. I then curled my hair and let my nice golden curls fall over my shoulders. I walked into the kitchen and I see Maria cooking. "Morning Maria." She smiles.

"Morning Mrs. Emma." I smile "Morning." She smiles. "Do you have a basket?" She nods. "You want to take some food to Mr. Neal?" I nod. "Yes I want to surprise him at his job." She nods. "You sure?" I nod. "Of course, why wouldn't I be?" She shrugs. "I just want to make sure." I smile and nod.

I wonder why she reacted that way. Anyways I prepared lunch and I made my way to his law firm. I walked in and everyone gasped then started whispering to one another. I didn't think much of it so I brushed it off. I then walked up to Ruby, his secretary.

"Hello Mrs. Cassidy." I smile. "Ruby it's just Emma." She smiles and nods. "Is Neal in?" She smiles nervously. "Yes But..." That's when one of his coworkers walks by and sees the basket. "I can take it to him." I laugh. "That's so kind of you but I can do it." They both stayed quiet as I made my way to his office.

As I get to his office, Neal opens the door and I see a woman holding a little boy. I look at the little boy and he looks like Neal. The woman smiles at me then walks away. "Is that?" Neal sighs. "Neal my love tell me the truth, is that your mistress?" He chuckles and grabs the basket. "Thanks for lunch Emma." I scoff.

"Neal I need to know the truth, have you been sleeping with her?" He sighs. "Emma you know our marriage is falling apart, I don't have to tell you anything." My heart broke into a million pieces. "But is that your kid with her?" He just sighs. "Like I said I don't have to tell you anything, just go home," he says and walks away.

I made my way to my car and I started to cry. My eyeliner had run down my face and I looked like a mess. I seriously thought he was going to compliment how I looked, I guess there is someone else. How could he do this to me when I gave up everything for him. Everything!

I could have become a doctor, I had the grades to go to university then medical school but he said I didn't have to worry about anything. That he will provide everything for me, all I needed was to say I do and that's it. I guess 12 years doesn't mean anything when love isn't there anymore.
