Chapter 11

A couple of days later

My grandma had invited my mother over for dinner so I went and picked my mother up and brought her back to the house. I was helping set the table when my grandma gave me a smirk. "So Emma will you tell your momma there that you have a boyfriend." My mom gives me a weird look.

"He's not my boyfriend he's just a friend mom." My mom touches my arm. "Baby don't open that door before you've closed the other one, you hear me?" I sigh then my grandma chuckles. "That all sounds real good, sitting there telling your momma he ain't nothing but a friend." I give my grandma a glare.

"Baby I've seen the way you two are around each other you can't deny that." I smile super big but then I wipe the smile off my face and start to peel an orange that was on the table. "Well I'm too busy taking care of Neal, I don't have time for Killian." That's when my grandma scoffs.

"You better than me because I would be beating the hell out of Neal, honey." I sigh. "Oh grandma." She nods. "Shoot I would break both of his legs, that bastard." That's when my mom sighs. "Sometimes you just got to let God or the universe or whatever take care of folks that do you wrong." I sigh.

"Just remember peace be still my love." I roll my eyes and that's when my grandma takes out a gun. "Yeah I like that peace be still because I got a piece of steel." I chuckle and my mom shakes her head. My grandma serves the food on top of our table then walks back up to the counter. "Look here, that all sounds real good and everything you know about peace be still, but you got to be careful."

I gave her a weird look. "What do you mean grandma?" She takes a sip of her drink and sighs. "I remember one time this man did me wrong, and honey, I didn't even know how mad I was till I got to his funeral- he had died." I take a sip of my drink and nodded. "Why were you so mad at him?" She scoffs. "Because he hit me Emma." I gasp and she nodded.

"Yes, he did, he hit me. And honey he is 8 feet under." My mom chuckles. "It's 6 feet." And my grandma nods. "That's what I'm telling you, I thought I was over what he had done to me till I saw him laying in that casket." I nod. "The man was dead and I got mad all over again. I beat him down 2 more feet, I was mad as hell." I gasp.

She then walks up to me. "Listen, you think you're over something, you think you're ready to go on with your life. This is how you really find out if you're over something or not." I turn my head. "Look at me Emma." I sigh and looked back at my grandma. "If you get an opportunity to get even with somebody who did you wrong and you don't take it, then you're over it." My eyes start to get watery.

"But if you don't, and you beat the hell out of them, then you're not over it yet." I look down and my grandma walks back to the counter pouring macaroni and cheese into a big bowl. My mom grabs my hand and half smiles. "My love, tell me something, how y'all really doing?" I sigh and my grandma chuckles.

"I'll tell you how she's doing, she's beating the hell out of him." I gasp. "Grandma How did you know?" She chuckles. "My child, you've been around me, I know something done rubbed off on you." I couldn't help but laugh a little. My mom sighs. "Emma dear, you haven't hurt him, have you?" I shake my head. "Just his feelings." She nods and sighs.

"You know Emma, I know this man put a hurting on you my love but you got to forgive him." I scoff. "No matter what he's done you got to forgive him." I roll my eyes. "Emma it's not for him, but for you." "Forgive him for me mom?" She nods as she starts to eat some of the macaroni and cheese that my grandma had made.

"When somebody hurts you, they take power over you. You don't forgive them they keep the power." I gasp and I shook my head. "Forgive him Emma." I sigh. "And after you forgive him, forgive yourself." I start to cry. "It's hard mom." She starts to rub my back.

"Oh my poor baby I know but you have to do it." My grandma finishes placing the other food on the table and sits down. "That's right, Listen to your mother, you have to forgive him for you my child." I half smile. "Ok enough talk, I made all this food so I expect all of you to eat it." I slightly chuckle.

"Thanks grandma for the food." She smiles. "You know I will always take care of you baby." I smile. We continued to eat and the evening passed. My mom got permission to stay here so I fixed the couch so she could sleep there while I made my way back to my old house.

I stood at the front door and just mediated on everything my grandma said. Forgive him, so I could be free. I know he doesn't deserve that but in all honesty, I do need it in order to be free from all of this. I may not want to be with Killian right now but I first need to be good with myself.
