There was an annoying beeping sound in my ear. That was the first thing I noticed when I became aware of myself next. It was relentless and irritating to say the least. Next to that was the itching prick in my elbow. Without thinking I used my hand to reach over and tug at the chord leading into my arm.

“Hey, don’t do that. You need it.”

Tristan? But what was he doing here? My eyes wouldn’t open despite how much I tried. My hand crept along, groping the sheets towards the sound of his voice. His warm fingers encountered mine and I sighed in relief. He was here. But where exactly was here?

        “Keira? Can you hear me?”

My throat felt like a barbed wire had been lining the inside of it all night. The best I could manage was scratchy mmph.

“Keira I’m so sorry. I should’ve never let you leave like that. When I found the necklace and cloths…you don’t realize what I felt.”

“But-but you,” I coughed “What about Ally?”

“Ally?” his eyebrows furrowed. “Ally is my oldest friend. I could never see her like I see you.”

Oh no, was I really that wrong? “But sh-she said you were h-her fiancé.”

“How-“ it dawned on him. “You were there. Keira no, it wasn’t like that. Ally’s always saying stuff like that, don’t take her seriously.”

“But… she’d b so much better for you.”

He suddenly looked mad, and me helplessly lying in this bed he leaned over me and kissed my bruised lips. The beeping got erratic and he stopped. Worry etched on his beautiful face. “I’m sorry I didn’t know that would happen.”

“Tristan,” his face snapped back towards mine. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. About… anything. That day in the garden…I just…”

“Hey it’s not your fault. I was too bold and selfish. I knew I shouldn’t have done something like that in the first place. But, Keira, I’ve been in love with you since the first moment I saw you. Then seeing you every day and every night before I went to bed, it just got harder and harder to keep away from you like that. You’re more beautiful than every rose in that garden. I don’t care about your past; all I want is the future. I want to be your future and I want to make you happy.” His lips pressed into my palm and I felt a hot tear drop into it.

“You already do make me happy.” I whispered. Using both hands I pulled him back down to me. The smell of roses once again hung on his breath, and all sense of reason left me. For in that instant he was really mine. I could never love myself nor accept all that I’d done, but with Tristan’s help, maybe I could learn to love him more than any other person had ever loved another.

It was some time later that a nurse came into the room, effectively causing us to separate. The heart monitor had been going off again and she’d come to check. Later Tristan and I laughed it off.

“What will happen now?” I asked him after she had left. “I don’t want to leave you again…”

He was shaking his head before I even finished. “I’m not going to let that happen. Your Uncle was arrested that night, and mom is hiring you a lawyer. Because of everything that’s happened she assumed you’d want to press charges. Quite honestly I’m hoping you will.” He trailed kisses down my skinny wrist. “I want to see that bastard put in jail for what he’s done to you.”

A weight seemed to lift off my shoulders. “So I wouldn’t have to live with him anymore? I could come back with you?”

“Yes. This is your fairy tale after all.”

(There will be an epilouque ^^)
