Mom!
Come here.
Hear! Here! Hear
What the man on the TV just said
Mom came and
indeed she came to see
a bright golden boy smile
on a chill crazy haired guy
with seemingly no cares in the world.
A guy that everybody would like
Yes, the man on the TV had said
Oh yes, the MAN on the TV had said
some quite interesting things.
He said, "Let me tell you what is right."
The TV man said,
"Tolerance is needed."
To us he pleaded.
That's what the TV man said.
And I so very much wanted to like him
But gradually I saw
that mother was upset
at what the man on the TV just said.
So she turned to another channel
and yelled, "Jim!
Come listen to what the man on the TV says!"
And then came in
on the screen
a man with fiery strong eyes
that got you excited
for some kind of war
He talked of traditions and principles
Gospel and structure
and ignited fury in all the watchers
over all that at stake
THAT's what the man on the TV then said
But Dad didn't care for it.
Apathetic towards it,
he turned the channel to sports
for captivating distraction
from monotonous life
And then new TV men walked in
all glamorous and strong.
But then they all started making speeches.
And then it all went wrong.
"Politics again!"
Father cursed
and threw the TV out the window
and bought us all new ones
each our own
5 months later
and I again said,
"Mom, come hear what the TV man just said!"
The screen was so bright
and the music so inspirational
Mom yelled, "No Billy!
Come down to hear what my TV man says!"
So I stumbled down heavily
with my TV in my hands
to listen to what mom's TV man said,
which were words that my TV man classified
as outright bigoted.
And then I disagreed with mother
and she called me irreverent
I demanded a reason.
She then directed me to what the man on the TV said
Then walked in father
with his TV up close
making noise and havoc.
Thrill enthralled his eyes.
And there we were all yelling.
Mom yelled, "But the TV man said..."
Dad confused, questioned her, "What?
And I, frustrated and certain, screamed,
"BUT MY TV MAN SAID!"
Noise drowned the room.
Mom yelled louder,
"BUT MY TV MAN SAID!"
And then the power went out
Quite suddenly
And there it was just us
You and me
And then a small voice
out of the darkness came
It said,
"What do you say?"
And we
all in unison
said,
"What the man on the TV just said."
