School was boring. Everyone wore the same clothes, went to similar classes, and did basically the same thing everyday. It was small too, so no good gossip went around unsaid."Did you hear about Dawn Lawrence? I herd she broke up with her boyfriend Blake in summer!"
"Really?!"
"Yeah! It was really messy too! Dawn acted like a total bitch to him! Poor Blake.. I would never treat him that way.."
Life was pretty much uncomfortable to say the least. However, there was one thing that kept her going. That thing, was baseball.
Dawn was in her senior year of high school, and was in varsity baseball. She loved it. However, she would soon come to hate it.
It was the start of the year, and Dawn had managed to only to nap in five of her classes already. The thing she really looked forward to though, was the baseball game tonight. JV and Varsity were participating. In the dugout, she noticed a man from the stands. He was the ever-so-popular Sebastian Jones. Or "Sebby" as his football teammates like to mock him. This meant he was buddy buddies with people like Hunter and Nathan. And Nathan was the biggest asshole on campus. There was something off about his appearance though, she'd never really seen him around in the years she'd been doing baseball at the school. She realize the gravity of the situation until a few weeks later, where he had consistently gone to their games. Which, she would have let that slide, only that his eyes would seem to follow her body in all the wrong places.
Dawn's Pov
"What grade did you get on the last math test? I'm not quite sure if the answer was five to the power of twenty seven or thirty five." Emma shifted through notes at the lunch table. Emma was a blonde with big rounded glasses which complemented her long hair. Which went along with her short height. She was the conservative type, I don't even think anyone has seen her arms alone in 15 years. It was at its usual buzz, Emma, Anastasia and I, Dawn, usually sit towards the back where no one would bother us. I pushed around the food on my tray, while Anastasia was trying to figure out if she failed her math class or not.
"I got ten." Anastasia sighed and face-palmed into the table. Emma's face wore a slightly concerned, but ironically amused. "Well..maybe I'm wrong..?" Emma tried to comfort but chuckled as well, Ana was doomed. Emma was never wrong about math. Anastasia was a tall and pale girl, she had this long black hair that she could pull in any direction and it'd be beautiful. Her beautiful blue eyes could stun any man.
"Hey, got something on your mind Dawn?" Ana observed me staring at my white rice in my tray. "Maybe how the star football player was eyeing you up the other day."I turned red. I was not comfortable with this topic, plus rumors told everyone that his little sister was starting high school and had already got into JV baseball already. So, really he was there for his sister. As long as I had that excuse I was fine. He didn't notice me, and everything would be normal, and I didn't have to worry about the whole popular clique coming after me.
"It's nothing-really." I shifted uncomfortably, "He was just there for his sister..y'know."
"Well, damn. I wish my boyfriend stared at me like that then." Ana replied, and Emma slightly giggled in the background. Which they knew full and well that they were totally single. I sighed, exhausted already.
"I'm gonna go get my books." I stood up and threw my food away and continued to my locker, my head slightly down. The topic weighed heavy in my mind. However, Ana got up right after her. Then with no choice, Emma followed as well.
"Hey now!" Ana caught end up with me as soon as I stopped for my locker and entered the combination. "Is there something bothering you?"
"Yeah.. this year you've just been really.. paranoid." Emma quietly spoke up.
"I don't want to talk about it." I muttered hopelessly, shifting through the endless stuff I had in the locker.
"Are you sure?" Ana looked at me with a concerned expression.
"Yes. I'm very sure." Then suddenly slammed the locker closed, a bothered expression on my face. I glared at them for a moment, until the bell rang.
"Ok then Dawn. I'm trusting you on this one..Just.." Ana looked at her one more time, still worried about her. "Just meet us after school and we'll go do something right?" I nodded, and they were off to class.
