Chapter Five

Then, everything was pretty normal again. Which was pretty relieving for a change. Until, Seb decided to stop by locker again. I dragged out two books, slammed my locker shut, and he was there. I stared at him blankly for a moment, "What are you doing here?"

'Well. I kinda wanted to apologize for something. I tried to tell you some time ago, but you weren't sober so.. Here I am." Seb leaned against the lockers to my right side and I turned to him.

"Ok then. Shoot." I held my books to my chest.

"Well. I'm sorry about that time..Where you slapped me-I really sorry about trying to do that to you." He turn his head like a dog, trying to see if there was any empathy in my eyes, "I know now that you're feelings aren't really comfortable with anything like that, and they might not be for along time." He stuck his hand out, "So, friends?" I looked at him, but all his face read was innocence as his raised eyebrows waited for my answer.

"Sure." I shook his hand firmly, with a nod. He smiled.

"Alright then, cya later friend." saluted a goodbye, and walked away. Then I smiled, he was sweet.

No, scratch that-nevermind.

A few weeks later, Seb and I texted regularly but never really met on campus. Which was probably for the best.

Emma and I had lost ourselves in the light forest that we could get through her backyard. There was a clearing and it was just a meadow for maybe two miles. It was nice, we mostly just sat down on the soft grass and talked, and sometimes I'd bring my sketchbook.

The sun beamed, and the light wind kept me from being too hot. The light blue cloudless sky made for a tranquil day.

"Hey Dawn?" Emma spoke, laying on the overgrown grass with her hands behind her head, looking up at the sky.

"Yes?" I drew carefully on my small sketchbook propped up on my knees.

"So..You know- how you know Sebastian now..?" Emma was hesitant to continue.

"Yeah..? What about him..?"

"Well.. Does that mean you know Hunter too?" Emma eventually managed to mumble.

"Oh my god Emma. Do you..?" I turned my head, aghast by the news.

"..yes.." She sighed, "yes I do.." Emma nodded.

"Oh my god you two would be so adorable!" I exclaimed, remembering how much of a innocent guy Hunter was. Sadly, usually he was cheated on or stood up because he would love them to easily. He reminded me of a sad puppy.

"He's just.." Emma covered her red face with her hands and whined.

"Don't worry Emma! I'll find a way for you two to meet up." I grinned at Emma's cuteness. Emma always fidgeted with whenever she thought about relationships, mostly because thinks she's not a very sexy girl. She is very insecure about her body, and where she allows people's hands to wonder. Then, most of the time, she's too afraid of rejection.

"Thank you Dawn." Emma took her hands off of her face and looked up to the sky, "I hope he doesn't think I'm a freak."

"He'll like you Emma, you're a charming person." I smiled at her.

A few weeks later, I talked to Seb about Hunter and Emma, and he helped me set them up. Which, we settled on meeting up at a aquarium which Seb and I were supposed to come along, but we didn't show. Actually, we were totally eavesdropping, that works right?

"They aren't going anywhere." I inspected from a corner, squinting my eyes so I could see the pair. They stood in front of a large aquarium, looking at countless fish while keeping a nice conversation going. It was slightly dark, so the blue light reflected onto their faces. I could see their excited expressions.

"Well, look at them, they are both happy. You're getting nervous at nothing." Seb replied, leaning on the wall right next to me while I looked around the corner. I sighed.

"You're right. I'm just anxious I guess..." I muttered, "Emma is a really..soft person. I'm scared of her getting hurt or something." I pursed my lips, looking at the floor.

"Hey you wanna know something?" Seb interrupted my thought process, I looked up at him.

"The only reason why Hunter is so good on the team, whenever he's got the ball and he looks back, and there a whole opposing team behind him, it scares the living shit out of him. He's the fastest runner on the team." Seb spoke with a silly smile on his face, and his story made me smile as well. "In fact, I know him so well, he's probably making googly eyes at Emma right now." I turned the corner and there he was, just smiling at Emma like a idiot as she looked at the nearby clownfish. I turned back to Seb.

"You're right. I'm worried about nothing." I looked forward with a relieved expression on my face, "Hey, why'd you think of a aquarium in the first place?"

"Well. Hunter loves to go here because he finds the fish so cute. Also, it has a nice view." Seb left his statement open ended, and there was a small silence.

I turned my head towards him and looked at his shifty eyes. Until I realized that he was implying. I slid away from him a little bit while my back was against the wall. He shrugged.

"It was worth a try." I simply shook my head and sighed, and looked back at the pair and they were off to look at another tank.

"Oh! There they go!" I grabbed Seb's hand and dashed after them.

Weeks passed, and Emma seemed to be happier than usual.

"Hunter and I kissed." Emma smiled after school, and we sat on one of the benches outside of school. We were waiting for Anastasia to come and pick us up so we could hang out. Emma was really happy, I hadn't seen that light in her eyes for a while.

"Emma! Oh! I'm so happy for you!" I hugged her tightly, a infectious smile on my face as well. After a moment, we pulled away and held hands while Emma's shy face was joyful.

"Yeah he.." Emma giggled slightly, "I don't think there's anyone who I'd rather be with."

"I'm so happy for you that you've finally found someone." I grinned at her, "Hey Emma...can I ask you something?" I asked, after a moment of silence. Emma slightly nodded and I continued with my sentience, "I-I..I know it isn't my business and I'm fine if don't want to answer me but.. What happened between you and your last boyfriend? You seemed to change so drastically after it." Emma's smile faded, "Oh god-I shouldn't have asked I'm so sorry-"

"No, no it's fine." She hushed me by interrupting me. "It was long ago, he just.. made me do some bad things then broke my heart.. he called me horrible things and stuff. He made sure that I couldn't ever look in the mirror the same way. But it's ok now." Emma smiled at me sadly, "It's much better now. I'm very happy with Hunter, I love him very much. He would never do anything bad to me."
