As the weeks passed, Brendon seemed to be nice to her during the day and spending time with her, but in the evenings, he ignores her and does his own things in the room with so many locks on it.

Every night, Brendon would tell Evie this: "Whatever you do, do NOT come out of this room when you go to bed. If you need something, shout me and I will come to you, ok?"

When Evie's in bed, she would hear banging, digging, drilling from downstairs. Evie was starting to wonder if this was a good idea after all. But she wasn't quite sure.

The next day, Brendon and Evie were eating their breakfast. Jam on toast. Evie asked Brendon: "What was all that noise last night?"

Brendon paused. He didn't move an inch. Evie felt the wind of panic fly through her. Then Brendon answered: "It's next door. They're having a makeover. It can be such a racket don't you agree?"

Evie nodded her head quickly. She didn't quite believe him. But she still went along with it.
