Chapter 6: NYE Miss

December 30th

I got the part on the brand new movie and we start recording in March! I couldn't contain myself. I called Adin right away when I got the news.

"That's amazing! Congrats Lauren! You're I'm playing what exactly though," he asked me over the phone.

"I'll be this squirrel. Nothing super huge in the movie, but I'm just so excited I had to call someone," I shrieked into the phone.

Adin laughed at me. "Well I'm glad you chose me to call. Can you actually do me a favor though? It's a really big favor," Adin pleaded.

I sighed, "Alright what is it?"

"Can you pick me up from the airport at like 2AM on the 1st," he asked. He's flying back already? He wasn't even there for a full week.

"What's going on Kolansky? Why aren't you staying there longer," I narrowed my eyes and took a seat on my futon.

"I just-I uh. I want to go home. Some stuff kind of happened and I would like to go back to LA," he sounded stressed.

"Did you need a friend," I leaned my back against the futon. That was odd of him. He needs a friend? I wonder how bad this must be then.

"I just would like to go back to LA. Can you please please pick me up," Adin sounded like he was in distress and I felt kinda bad for him.

"Yes I'll pick you up. You owe me a coffee though," I smiled a little. He needed me for something and I kind of liked it. Helping him out, being his 'go to' person.

"For you I'll get you as much coffee as you want," Adin chuckled. "I really appreciate it Lauren. You're the best."

"Eh anytime babe. I gotta get going though and go get my brother from work," I checked the time on the wall, 10:46PM. We said our goodbyes and I started out the door. I picked up my brother from work and dropped him off at his little house. I drove back home it was almost midnight by the time I got home.

December 31st, 11PM

Everyone was party and drinking while I was at home sleeping. The new year never felt anything special to me but another day to make more memories and mistakes. There wasn't anything special about it.

I got up and took a shower and put on some leggings and a long sleeve. It was so cold out in LA tonight for some reason. I walked out on the balcony of my apartment and looked around. Everyone was just having the time of their lives, I wasn't mad or envious of it. I just didn't understand why everyone made such a big deal about new beginnings and blah blah.
I went back into my apartment and made some chicken and broccoli for dinner.

"3... 2... 1... HAPPY NEW YEAR," I heard people shouting from all around me. I rolled my eyes and sat down with my dinner. I checked my phone and everyone started texting me their happy new year texts. I put my phone down and finished my dinner.

It was almost 1AM so I decided that I needed to get out of the apartment and head to the airport to pick up Adin. I got to LAX and parked in the parking lot and started for the terminal. I stopped to grab a coffee before I stood over by where Adin's plane was landing. I sat on playing games on my phone for a while til I heard someone shout my name. I looked up and it was Adin.
He looked comfy in sweats and a sweatshirt with his little duffle bag. My stomach began to turn a little bit and my heart began to race as he approached me.

"Happy New Years," Adin gave me a huge bear hug and kissed my cheek. Oh geez my stomach turned some more.

"Happy New Years Adin," I said to him back. "How was your flight did you sleep much?"

"No but that's fine I can sleep when we get back to the apartments," he took my hand and we began walking to my car. This was the first time we've held hands like this in public and I didn't know how to feel about it. We drove back to the complex and I kept asking Adin about what happened in New Jersey. He just kept saying that it was someone from the past. We got to the complex and got into the elevator.

"Did you wanna come hang out for a little bit," I looked at Adin as he pressed the button for his floor. He gave me a smirk.

"I get to come up this late," Adin looked me up and down. "What's your game here Lauren?"

"Maybe I just wanna watch movies with you Kolansky goodness," I rolled my eyes. The elevator went up.

"I'll come hang out with you. It is New Years after all. How you begin the new year is how your year will go," he nudged my arm. We got up to my place and shuffled inside. I turned on the TV and put Hulu on.

"Did you want something to eat or drink," I asked while walking into the kitchen. I looked around the fridge.

"Just water is cool," he said from the living room. I grabbed us some water and flopped down on the cushion next to him. "Lauren can I ask you something?"And my stomach started turning again.

"Yeah anything," I took a sip of my water and began looking for a movie to put on. I put the Truman Show on.

"The other day when I told you that I think I really like you, you never said anything back to me. You kind of brushed it off. Why's that," Adin put his hand on my knee and looked me in the eyes.

"Uh-uhhh. I think that's because I didn't know how to react to it," I made a sour face.

"Oh I get it," Adin put his hand on his lap.

"No I-um let me explain," I begged him.

"No it's okay. I'm normally in the friend zone and I thought this felt a lot more different. But-." I cut Adin off, I put my arms around his neck, and kissed him. Smack dab on the lips. My heart was still pounding as hard as ever and this was the first time I've kissed him since we went to the pier. My stomach was turning as I pulled away. I examined his face and he just looked at me.

"I don't wanna get hurt," I looked at Adin. "I really don't want to hurt you too."

"You won't," Adin smiled and put his hand around the bottom of my head and pulled me in for another kiss. I couldn't help but fall deeper into whatever it was that I was falling into with Adin. His lips were so soft and felt right against mine.

"I'm serious Adin," I said as I pulled away.

"Lauren as long as you don't shut me out there won't be anything for you to worry about. I promise you that I won't hurt you," Adin put his other hand on my hip. He continued to look me in the eyes. It seemed like he was being genuine. I nodded my head okay and he smiled widely at me.

"Let's watch this movie and then we can decide if we wanna watch another or if we want to sleep," Adin moved his hands off of me and grabbed the remote. I scooted closer to him resting my head on his chest as he put an arm around me.

The way you begin the new year is how the new year is, if this was true then I wouldn't mind spending a lot of it with Adin. Jesus, Kolansky what have you done to me.
