Chapter Ten
Doctor Phillips
“Yes ma’am. I’ll do it right away ma’am.” I forced a smile at my employer, who was consulting me via a video link. Personally, I didn’t think it was a very secure way to talk but I was smart enough to know that I never contradict her. She pursed her lips for a moment, as if pending what to say next, before abruptly switching off the video link. I let out a breath I hadn’t realised I was holding in, and rubbed my head. A 20 minute talk with her was enough to give anyone a migraine…and I could feel mine coming along. Sometimes that woman seriously scared me; she always acted so gentle until you got on her bad side. My colleague, Mark Richards, had visited her recently and never returned. Her security guard, Johnson, was one of my close friends and he told me that she killed him. And made Johnson clean it up!
I stood up, emptying my mind of my unneeded thoughts, and set about doing what she told me to do. I had barely stepped out of my office when the trainee doctor, Miss Jones crashed into me.
“Watch where you’re going! This is a hospital, not a running course!” I shouted at her, already in a very bad mood, I didn’t need some trainee bashing into me all the time. She mumbled a flustered apology before biting her lip anxiously.
“I…I’m very sorry Dr. Phillips, but you n…need to come and see this.” She told me quietly, as if she didn’t really trust herself to speak. I sighed and nodded, following her through the hallways. Her pace quickened as she reached the A&E ward, and I had an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. My feelings were clarified when I saw Miss Williams walking around with Sherlock Holmes. I began to hyperventilate as questions soared through my mind; How was she allowed to leave her room? What was she doing with Sherlock? Do either of them know yet? The migraine I was worried about began to take effect and my head started to throb. I shook my head to try and clear my thoughts but it only made my headache worse. So instead, I decided to address the problem directly. It was the only option left. I took a deep breath, and ran over to Miss Williams, who had fallen into Sherlock’s arms. I pulled her away from him, and two other doctors came over with a fresh IV decoy.
“Why wasn’t she with her IV?” I thundered, scowling at him. He returned my scowl.
“When she walked out, she wasn’t attached to an IV.” He said through gritted teeth. I could see I was getting to him, but I didn’t care. My life hung in the balance here. I laughed sarcastically, mainly to annoy him more.
“Yes, of course. Considering that miss Williams is partially paralyzed, it seems perfectly sound that she was able to walk out her unaided.” I spat, and walked off with the other doctors who were carrying miss Williams to her room. We quickly crowded around her and I grabbed the syringe on the table next to her. I quickly injected the syringe into her legs, which instantly numbed them and turned her flesh cold. I did it just in time because the man who was with Sherlock pulled me aside.
