A/N: Well hello there :)  This is a fanfic that I originally posted on Tumblr, and decided to post it here as well.  It got pretty popular on Tumblr (at least I think it did...) so I figure that maybe Wattpad users would like it?  Well, we'll see, won't we?  Please excuse my lazy mistakes and remember that I have NEVER EVER written before this.  Also remember that I have already written most of the story, but I will upload a chapter by day (or whenever I get around to it) on here for organizing-ness.  You're welcome to peek ahead, I could care less.  Also if you don't like something that happens or whatever, just stop reading and move on with your life.  There's no need for fighting, lovelies.  Okay?  Okay!  I really hope you enjoy this :)  Let's goooooo~

The lake was cold. Maybe that was a good thing. I wondered of it would help, make this easier. Death isn’t necessarily supposed to be an enjoyable experience. I took another step, and suddenly I was knee deep. I shivered, teeth rattling and my entire body shaking. Was I really going through with this? Apparently I was. My jeans stuck tightly to my legs. They would be the last things to hold me close. I took another step, and another. Okay, waist deep. This is it. Another two steps and I’d be under. I’d die. For once, I was grateful for being the only one in my town who didn’t know how to swim. I began to lift of my leg to take another step when I heard something. It sounded like a voice. I tried to ignore it and closed my eyes. It was just my natural senses telling me to get the hell out of here, you’re too young to die. “But I want to die,” I said out loud. The voice grew louder. Then I realized: there was someone yelling at me.

I slowly opened my eyes and turned my head around. A figure was running towards me. “No,” I said. It was all over. Now I would end up in some mental hospital depressed and lonely for the rest of my life. “God dammit,” I hissed at the figure. There was no point in even trying to drown now. It would be useless. I’d probably just end up in a hospital, sick as a dog.

I didn’t move from the icy lake though. I stood there as the person approached the edge. “Hey!” he called out to me.

“Hello,” I spat sarcastically.

“What the hell are you doing?” he called. I couldn’t make out his face, I was shivering too much. He had an English accent, though. Why was he in Maine? Weird, I thought.

“What does it look like I’m doing?” I called. “I’m going for a swim!”

He bent down and touched the water. “How? It’s freezing! And so murky!”

I shrugged. “Your point?”

“Why don’t you get out? You are shivering like crazy!”

“I don’t want to!”

“Why? You’re mad!” I kicked the water, and giving up, slowly made my way back to land. The moment I reached the sand I fell down, trembling from the cold. “Oh my, god,” the man said. Suddenly I heard him talking to another person. “Alex…Yeah, I’m by the lake, get down here…And get some towels…You’ll see why…Okay, hurry!” Then the man bent down next to me and lifted me so I was sitting up. He wrapped his arms around me and rubbed my back, trying to warm me. “It’s okay, my friend is coming, you’ll be warm soon,” he said. “Don’t worry.”

But I was worried. I have no explanation for this, other than “I tried to kill myself,” which just isn’t a reasonable explanation if you know what I mean.

“Mmm,” I moaned softly. My head throbbed and I could tell I was covered in like, a dozen blankets. “Mom?” I called, keeping my eyes sealed shut.

“Um, no, just me. You know, from…from the lake…”

I opened my eyes slowly. Before me stood a guy who was actually about my age, twenty or so. “You saved my life?”
