"Bria Johnson" My principal called as I briskly ran up the stage. I could hear some people clapping, calling me names, and soft murmurs. I try my best to not have any contact with anyone but the ground.
When I was close enough, my principal smiles at me and said, "Congrats, you passed with a 4.2 GPA and you got a diploma in skating."
He gives me a golden plaque with my name in beautiful writing that said my name and I replied, "Thank you" and then I walked off the stage quickly and immediately sat back in my chair. I watched other people graduate, applaud, and then walked off. I even saw Tiffany with her blonde curly hair and brown eyes waving and smiling.
Tiffany hates me and so does my fellow classmates because of my skin. They called me bad things like nigga, ugly black girl, and blacky. I detested them myself, but I cannot find the strength to be cruel to them. Once Tiffany filed off the stage, she rolled her eyes at me and pouted, "Sure, you're good at skating but your black self probably can't beat Ginna the top skater" I didn't reply and she continued, "Besides, I don't think you'll get very far with your dirty skin. Maybe you should shower."
She walks off and I take a deep breath as others laugh as they pass by me. I'm the only black girl in my honors classes. Therefore usually Asians and Whites are very cruel because I'm smart and I can skate very well. Also because I'm very rich since my parents are professional high bankers and my older sister Jasmine is a professional writer. I don't like banking or writing, but I do love to skate. It makes me feel like I'm important for once when everyone treats me like I'm not.
After I graduated, I took my hat and robe and smiled at myself. My dark brown hair is curled, my face is styled with makeup, and I wore a gorgeous golden dress with high heels. I glanced over at Tiffany to see her wearing a teal sparkly dress and high heels. She looked very pretty and I sigh as I looked at myself. Am I worthless, am I dirty, am I nothing- "Hey Nigga" A cruel voice screamed at me and I turned around. It was a very cute guy and he was making fun of me.
Me, wow! "You look so ugly with your black skin and all, but your dress isn't that bad" He said with a laugh.
"Thanks", I whispered. I didn't like what he said, but I took it as a compliment anyway. They were many parents filing around with their daughters and sons, but I wasn't because my parents were working and my sister's busy writing. Plus, I was determined to go to the skating rink and practice. Tiffany got to me about Ginna, a beautiful woman who's liked by everyone because she can skate so well. Tiffany uses her sister to make herself popular and it’s pretty pesky.
"You’re welcome," The boy said, "I'm surprised you got a 4.2, I thought you were dumb. Anyway, bye," He walks off before I can fully get upset of what he just said to me. I sighed and decide to walk to the rink before they killed my brain cells. As I walked, I spot Ginna and I tried my best not to make contact with her.
Twenty minutes passed by and I finally made it to the rink. The rink was nice and cool and it smelled like ice. A nice lady with curly brown hair and light skin smiled at me and asked for my name. "Bria” I replied with a smile.
She lightened up and told me, "Oh, you're the Bria? Nice job! You have a gift"
I blushed, "Thanks." I pushed open the big doors and with a smile, I'm inside the rink. Groups of people with blonde hair and brown hair appeared everywhere and they could really skate.
I gulped; I hoped they would see me as good. I went up to get my skates to see a man with black hair, brown eyes, and light skin. He smiled at me and asked, "Size?”
"Sev—
"Oh yeah, you're Bria. Here's your size seven" He said as if I was famous.
"Thank you,” I said quietly and took the shoes.
"For a black girl, you have great talent.”
"Thanks," I said remembering he was always counting on my skin like everybody else was.
I took the skates and sit down untying my own shoes and then I looked up to see Tiffany. "Hey nigga, you are looking a bit darker. Is it because you're not in the sun?” She asked happily. When I didn’t respond, she rolled her eyes and asked "Anyway, want to race?"
"Sure thing,” I mumbled.
She smiles and I rolled my eyes, "Hurry up nigga!"
"My name's Bria,” I snapped. "Okay."
"Oh okay, got it blacky", She retorted as she tossed her hair. "Hurry up, blacks are so slow"
I hurried and stood up. "Okay, let's go".
We both scurried into the icy rink and another girl with blonde hair appeared behind us. "This is Alyson,” Tiffany introduced, "She'll judge us".
I nod and smiled at her and she surprisingly smiled back with a huge toothy grin. “Okay go first!” Alyson informed me.
"Okay,” I responded quietly and took a deep breath.
I skated two laps around the rink and spin. I guided my feet into a pretty twirl and pivot with a nice twirl once more. I stuck my leg once in the air and guided my hands through the wind and privet by making a huge spin. After five more twirls, I made a spin into the air and landed down with one arm to my side and one in the air with my legs crossed.
"Great!” Alyson told us happily.
"She's wasn't that good" Tiffany replied cruelly, "I can do better!"
Tiffany skated around the rink once and tries to do a spin but she landed on her butt."Ouch" She squealed.
"Bria wins with 100-
"Shut up!” Tiffany screamed and pushed down Alyson, "How can this stupid dark ni-
"My name's Bria!” I shouted and my nice and my sweet temper is suddenly cut off with anger. Obviously this girl is nothing but a jealous brat!
I punched her in the face before I could even realize what I was doing and she landed on the floor with a high pitch scream. "Wow", Alyson said as she rolled her eyes at Tiffany, "She really deserved it".
"Oh my gosh, no I didn-
"So", Alyson interrupted, "You're skating is to die for. Here take this". She handed me a flyer of some sort.
I asked her curiously, "What is it".
"It's a high class skating academy that I think you can win. Why won't you enter", Alyson suggested.
Okay thanks” I said happily and I spotted Tiffany walking with tears and a black eye.
Oh my gosh! Alyson walked off and I decided to go home and explain the whole thing to my parents. There is a high chance that Ginna would attend this academy and she'll definitely kick my butt if she found out I gave her little sister a black eye. I really didn't mean to, but she was just so mean to me. I sighed as I returned my shoes and walked home briskly.
"How was skating and graduation", Mom asked as soon as I came home.
"Um, I punched this girl", I blurted out.
"What?!" Mom exclaimed.
"Tiffany was being very rude to me and her friend Alyson gave me a high score since we did a race, I ended up beating her. I punched her because she called me bad names and made fun of my skin color. I didn't mean to and um, Alyson gave me this flyer because she thought I was that good" I explained.
"Really?" Mom asked after reading the flyer, "It's an all white academy and that may not be good if Ginna's there."
I sighed; I never should've punched Tiffany! Even though she was acting like a- an uhm bad girl, I still shouldn't have-
"So, I heard you're going to an academy" Jasmine said coming into the room with my laptop and is literally everywhere she goes.
"I don't know, I punched Tiffany and Ginna may do payback for it" I said sadly.
"Who cares" Jasmine scoffed, "Obviously, Tiffany deserved it right, I say you ignore racist people and sign up!"
"Yeah, I should" I agreed. "Okay"
Mom beamed at the suggestion, "Now how much is it?”
