SOTC: Atlas Hands - Benjamin Francis Leftwich

// fireflies pt.1 \\

"Stiles, have you looked outside?" Tori spoke softly from the spot that she took place in front of Stiles' bedroom window, a small smile placed on her face. Her eyes danced over the insects, their light filling up the dark night sky.

"Mhm" stiles hummed, his eyes still dancing over his computer screen as he worked on his essay for English class. When Tori noticed his odd noise, she looked behind her and huffed.

"The fireflies" she smiled, walking over to sit on his bed. "They're so beautiful"

"Yup" Stiles popped his p as she spoke, fingers clicking away on the keyboard as he listened to Tori talk. Bu, she knew he wasn't listening. Of course, that she completely understood. This essay was due the next day and he was rushing to get it finished. She understood for around the next 10 minutes that she wouldn't be talked to.

"Hey, can you help me add the course code page"

Or maybe she would. Tori sighed, pushing herself from of the bed and walked over to the desk. Stiles scooted over slightly, giving her a bigger access to his laptop. She quickly started pressing the right key pattern to make the headline appear, revealing the course code information. He kissed his teeth, looking up at Tori.

"Thank you" sang Stiles. "Hey, are you okay?" He asked her, "with Erica and everything?"

"She tried killing you?" Allison asked Scott. She crossed her arms over her chest, watching Scott intently.

McCall sighed and looked down at the ground, nodding "yeah"

"Why didn't you tell me?" Allison spoke carefully, trying not to make herself cry at the thoughts of her deceased mother fogged her head. Tori had watched the two awkwardly as she waited for Derek to join them again,  a frown etched onto her face.

"I'll tell you everything, okay? I'll tell you anything that you wanna know but right now-"

"Just tell me why?" Allison had dropped her arms in defeat. Tears know forming in her eyes no matter how hard she tried to stop them. Scott watched the tears in his lovers eyes and became heartbroken, himself becoming sad.

"I couldn't. Allison, I couldn't let that be the last memory that you had of her"

The three teens all straightened up as they heard Derek shuffle into the section of the bank. Tori's face immediately fell, small tears pricking the sides of her eyes. Derek held a limp Erica Reyes in his arms.

"I'm fine" she smiled at Stiles, holding her hands in front of herself. "I just don't think she deserved that-" Tori moved back words until her body fell onto the bed. Her eyes wondered over the ceiling and she spread her hands over the comforter lightly. "Nobody deserves that"

Stiles had soon shut off his laptop and joined her on his bed. "You're not wrong there"

Both of their faces rolled to the side almost synchronically and their eyes connected. Stiles smiled softly at the girl who laid with him. Million of thoughts ran through his head as he started at the beautiful female in front of him and he couldn't help but smile even bigger.

"What?" Tori whispered, her eyes dancing over his features.

"Do you remember the formal?"

She chuckled softly, "which one"

"The one when I told you I loved you"

She stopped her slight giggle and her face fell slightly. Tori suddenly became slightly awkward, laying back down flat instead of facing her old love. "Of course. Why?"

Stiles debated on what to say next, his mind foggy with possible words he could fumble out next. "I don't know, I was just-" Stiles stopped talking when Tori turned to him once again. He couldn't help but think how beautiful she was in that moment. The dim lights seemed to become dimmer and the glowing bugs outside seemed to shine brighter and her chocolate brown eyes seemed to compliment her olive skin even more than it usually did.

"Stiles?"

"I, uh, I still"

As he fumbled around with his words, their faces subconsciously moved closer together. Stiles stopped talking, swallowing thickly. His bottom lips brushed Tori's softly. His hand trailed down her arms slowly, giving the Whittemore goosebumps as touched her skin. His hands touched her fingers, dancing over the ring he had given her the year before. They were about to kiss.

"I can't" Tori stay up quickly, stopping the two ex-lovers lips from meeting.

Stiles huffed, sitting up as well. "Because of him?" Their eyes met once again, just this time with a different look. "Because of Isaac?"

"No" she looked down at her hand that Stiles had just been toying with. "It's because Boyd and Derek's sister are running around Beacon hills probably killing people, while our friends try and get them and we are here. We are doing nothing" Tori's eyes met Stiles' honey eyes. "What we just did-almost did. It didn't help them at all. It didn't even help us because one of us will end up heartbroken"

Stiles was taken back from her words, and he re-adjusted his zip up.

"So no" She concluded, "it's not because of Isaac. It was never because of Isaac"

Ring Ring.

Tori grabbed her phone quickly off of the blue pillow at the head of the bed, sliding the answer icon on the screen.

"Hey-"

The room was silent, the only sound to be heard was the muffled distressed shouting on the other line, which Stiles tried so desperately to hear.

"Lydia, calm down. We're on our way"

Tori hung up the phone and jumped from the bed, gathering her belongings and throwing them into her purse.

"Tori? What's-"

"Get up and start the Jeep. Lydia found a body"
