previously:
"i want to speak to the owner of this restaurant"
Baekhyun's words send a trail of shivers down my spine, my eyes widening as my heart begins to race.

my eyes stay on the stressed waiter as he responds with a quick nod before disappearing into the back doors of the room.

my eyes travel back to the calm boy sitting across from me, the same smirk creeping on to his lips as he raises an eyebrow, knowing exactly what is going through my head.

who is going to walk through those doors?

***

my lips stay sealed as i watch those doors part, polished shoes walking through them and my head immediately snaps up, my eyes meeting his.

my uncle.

i gasp out of shock, my eyes widened as i stare at him in disbelief. he has a displeasing smile plastered on his aged face, his tall figure clothes formally.

what is he doing in my dad's place when he wasn't given any right to take over our business?

his eyes are searching for our table, probably unaware of who he is about to meet.

i turn to face baekhyun momentarily, his eyes glued to mine as his smirk grows.

he knew. he knew my uncle would be the one to walk out of those doors. but how did he know?

i bite down on my lower lip as i try to come up with a solution in my head. what should i do? should i cuss him out or just run out?

i can feel my head throbbing as i try to decide what to do.

i turn my head, following my uncles moving figure from the side of my eye as he stops by our table, his hands clasped together.

"hello mr. byun, it's good to see you again"
he speaks with a welcoming yet stern tone.

my heart drops. how does my uncle know baekhyun?

i keep my head low, my hair covering the side of my face from being exposed to him, my eyes traveling to baekhyun's only to see his smirk grow.

"hi colton, how's the business going?"
he momentarily looks up at my uncle before his eyes meet mine, evil and madness written all over his face.

too many questions are being forced into my brain as i sit still, trying to comprehend everything.

"great, i'm very thankful towards you"
my uncles cold chuckles send a trail of shivers down my spine, my heart pounding out of my chest from utter shock.

did my uncle have a part in my family's death?

baekhyun lets out a chuckle laced with frustration as he repositions him in his seat, one hand reaching for his pocket.

"of course, but when i decided to help you, i put my trust in you to provide excellent service for guests but you failed"
his eyebrows met as he spoke with authority, looking up at my uncle's standing figure.

when baekhyun decided to help my uncle?

i swallow the growing lump in my throat as i listen to their heated conversation, my uncle's nervous laughter making me even more anxious and i can feel my anger building up at a steady speed.

not once does my uncle divert his attention on to me.

"evacuate everyone. there's an emergency and the restaurant is closed"
baekhyun commands with all seriousness, his smirk disappearing almost instantly as he stares at my uncle in the eyes with anger.

i bite my lip as i watch my uncle's shoes disappear as soon as baekhyun finishes talking.

i look up at baekhyun and i can immediately tell that he is trying to hold himself back, his jaw clenched hard as he remains seated on his chair.

in a matter of minutes, everyone is forced to leave, full plates of food left behind on empty tables.

it's silent.

i hear my uncle's footsteps get louder as he approaches our table once again, not a single word coming out of his mouth.

"good job"
baekhyun smiles brightly as his mood suddenly changes and he pushes himself off of his seat and walks past our table.

i dare not look, because i don't want to face my uncle.
