I'm back, bitches. *flips hair* Also, this is the last chapter. Lol! Don't worry, there will be a sequel.

L's POV

I cradled my head in my hands, running my sweaty palms over my flushed cheeks.

I had done it. I have officially dropped out of college.

Well, this fucking sucks.

The headmaster was surprisingly shocked by my notification. Apparently, others just stopped going. He also understood my situation, and wished me luck. He was a very kind, just man. I respected that.

I sat in the recliner, bringing my knees up to my chest. My hands were shaking as Light handed me a cup of black coffee with four spoonfuls of sugar.

"Thank you," I stumbled. I took a sip of the drink, the warm, sweet brew warming my insides.

Light bent over to kiss my forehead before retreating to the couch and opening his laptop, catching up on his online classes.

And then I slept.

Light's POV

L had been really been beating himself up lately, at least the past couple weeks. He had been informed that the man responsible for his parents' death, that is, the drunk driver, would not be receiving any punishment or jail time for what he had done. That angered me.

Did they not realize that that man had killed two innocent people and ruined the life of another due to his reckless behavior? L, my L, was absolutely heartbroken. I know that he tries to put up an act, but I know better than that. I can hear when he cries at night, I can see the sadness behind his eyes overpowering the happiness. I can see the circles under his eyes getting darker and darker, his ribs beginning to protrude from his stomach.

I had searched the man on the internet when L wasn't looking. His name was Asato Kiyohira. He had no children, no significant other, and a criminal record seven miles long. He had been previously charged with manslaughter, drug possession and dealing, as well as armed robbery and resisting arrest on multiple accounts.

The very thought of this man made me furious. I clenched my fists, leaving nail marks in my palms.

I waited until I was sure that L was asleep before clearing my browser history and quickly leaving the apartment. I walked down the streets, attempting to catch my breath and refraining from tugging out my hair in anger.
I breathed deeply.

"Calm down, Light," I spoke to myself. "Just breathe,"

But then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw something that caused me to slip and fall. I rubbed the back of my neck before turning to the object, which happened to be... a notebook?

I picked it up, looking at the weathered cover. The words "Death Note" were engraved on the front.

Curiosity got the better of me as I opened it, reading the inside cover.

     1. The human whose name is written in this note shall die.

I stopped for a moment. Was this a joke? Was someone pranking me? I went to drop it back onto the ground, but somehow... I couldn't.

So I kept reading.

     1. The human whose name is written in this note shall die.
     2. This note will not take effect unless the writer has the person's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
     3. If the cause of death is written within the next 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen.
     4. If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.
     5. After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

I stared at the book in awe. I didn't know what to do. I was in shock. What-

"Do it."

I jumped, turning around and seeing a large creature behind me. His eyes were large and intimidating, as if challenging me. It was extremely slim and had light gray skin, almost blue-ish in color, with spiky black hair; thin, blue-grey lips; and sharp, pointed teeth. It's limbs were abnormally long and it had large, round yellow eyes with bright red irises. I noticed several rings glinting on his fingers.

"I know what you are thinking, Light Yagami. I know you read the article. I know you know where he lives."

"W-what are you talking about?" I clutched the book to my chest. "Who are y-you?"

The creature smiled. "My name is Ryuk," it grinned again. "And I believe that a certain someone deserves Justice."

I paused. Was he talking about L? "I'm listening."

"A man that was recently released from a case that a friend of yours was involved in is currently walking down the street as we speak, only 100 feet away. You read the rules. Go on, do it for your friend."

I took a deep breath, glancing at the notebook. Could I really kill Asato Kiyohira? I had a pen in my pocket, and all I had to do was write his name. It wouldn't even be murder. It would be.. a heart attack, right? Yes. A heart attack.
I thought back to L, his frail figure crying himself to sleep. He hardly ever ate, he quit school, his life has been ruined. I- I loved him. I couldn't bear to see him like this anymore. He needed... justice.

I whipped the pen out of my pocket and scribbled the words Asato Kiyohira onto the paper, picturing the narcissistic sneer of the man from the article in my mind. he disgusted me. He ruined my L, and he deserved to die. He killed two innocent people, and possibly even more, according to his record. He was scum. He didn't deserve to live. He didn't-

My thoughts were cut off by a loud sound.

The sound of sirens.
