Light's POV

It was the two month anniversary of L's parents' death. L was particularly depressed on this particular occasion. It was also exactly seven weeks after they had put an article in the newspaper about the crash, and exactly seven weeks after L had cried for forty eight hours straight.

Today, like any other day, I made L his breakfast. He was getting better, but every now and then he would refuse to even leave his bed. I took him to the store yesterday, but he didn't leave the car.

Baby steps, I told myself. Baby steps.

I brought L his food and stroked his head, planting a kiss on his soft forehead. He smiled faintly, accepting the plate and sitting up on the bed.

"The eggs are particularly good today," L mumbled quietly. I grinned at his attempt at a compliment.

"Well, thank you, dear," He glared at me, scolding me with his eyes.

"Don't call me dear,"

I grinned evilly. "Well, what do you want me to call you? Baby boy? Little one? Or do you prefer feminizatio-"

"I hate you," he proclaimed, setting his plate on the nightstand, food barely touched, and reaching around to grab a pillow. I stopped the pillow from making contact with my face, then leaned down and planted a soft kiss on L's chapped lips. He blushed.

I crawled up next to L, placing the pillow under his head and laying next to him. He laid his head on my shoulder, cuddling up to me. His untamable black hair tickled my chin.

I wrapped my arms around him, holding him closer.

"Hey, L?" I asked him. He looked up at me with his big doe eyes, smiling slightly.

"Yes?"

I bit my lip. "I hate to ask, but... what's your real name?"

L chuckled. "I figured you would ask at some point." He moved his hair out of his face. "It's a complicated story,"

"I've got time," I smiled. He grinned at me.

"Well, you see, 'L' is my real name," I raised an eyebrow as he continued. "My parents," he paused and sighed. "My parents names were Watari and Keiko. They are my adoptive family, I guess you would say. I never really saw anyone else as my parents. I'd known them since I was an infant. They nicknamed me 'L', and it just kind of stuck, I guess,"

L chuckled. "I guess it wasn't that long of a story after all."

The end of his sentence had trailed off, as I stopped listening as I got lost in his eyes. It wasn't until a noticed a single tear slip out of the corner of one of his beautiful chocolate orbs that I snapped back to reality.

"Oh my god, L, don't cry," I pulled him tighter, if that was even possible. He began to sob into my shoulder.

"I miss them."

"I know, love," I kissed his head. "I know."

I caressed his face and shoulder as he continued to cry, racking sobs throughout his body. Tears fell down his face, hiccuping due to lack of oxygen.

Lifting up his head and making eye contact, I took my sleeve and wiped the tears away.

"I will never let anyone hurt you. Never again. You know that, right?" I stated, running a hand through his hair.

He nodded, still unable to speak without crying. He pushed his head into my chest.

I smiled, resuming to stroke his hair. I felt his lips curl into a smile.

L's POV

"I just feel like the coffee is really bitter. I don't know what to do about it."

Light sighed. "Why don't you just try putting sugar in it or something?"

"Who in their right, sane mind would put sugar in coffee?"

"Just try it." He exclaimed, dropping two spoonfuls of sugar into the brew and handing it to me. I clasped the cup in my hands as he moved his spoon around in the mug, caramelizing the sugar.

"Try it," he stated. I took a sip.

And another sip.

Hot diggity damn.

"Oh my god this is great sweet mother of fuck," I began inhaling the drink.

Light chuckled. "I feel as if I have started an addiction."

I took a breath, pulling the mug away from my face. "I'd have to disagree,"

He raised an eyebrow at me, reaching to the counter beside me and obtaining a napkin as he began to wipe away my coffee mustache.

"Are you sure about that, L?"

I frowned.

"Fine,"

Light smiled lifting up my chin with his thumb and index finger. "That's my baby boy."

"I absolutely despise you." I laughed, kissing him softly. He smiled against my lips and he returned the kiss, pulling me to his chest.

Goddamn him.
