"And, why did they decide to come back here just now? I mean, they all have their companies and jobs there, why come in this small town again after so long?! Nothing is the same as before, it's been a decade, not a month. Is there any particular reason?"

"Hmm, I have no idea because I still haven't talked much with them. By the way, tonight you're invited for dinner at my place, they're coming over. Dad said it was time for our reunion since we all were pretty close back then." Tara bubbled.

"It's going to be magical! We're childhood friends after all, aren't we?"

Yes, childhood friends with only some vague memories from those blessed days, but time had passed.

They were all transformed in different ways from year to year until those carefree kids didn't exist anymore.

There's no point on denying it.

Not a single soul has been able to escape the trap of time, the adversity of growing up. The more children understand and the more they perceive how things work, the more their innocence dies away.

And that's until there's an insuperable chasm between that child and the grown-up individual, that no matter how one might try it can never be overpassed.

"Are you sure? It's been a long time and I don't want to impose, you're all family and I-"

That was Luna! Always worried that people would think she was friends with Tara just because Tara was rich, and now what Tara's cousins would think of her was her main preoccupation.

Pride had taken advantage of Luna in a scary way, and when pride is merged with spite and grudge, hate is all that survives.

But how long can a young girl live only trying to be better than those who hurt her somehow, trying to keep up with the other's expectations? When living in a small town, you have to adapt with their ways, because if trying to fight back, you'll be the lost one.

There is no middle way, you can either follow the current or go against it.

But know this! You will need to have your guns loaded when going against the current, be it a warm, be it a cold one.

For the ocean will mercilessly fight to keep its own rules, in its own kingdom.

Luna had understood that, and even though sometimes she longed for some recklessness, that obedient girl had always refrained herself. It was her destiny to be perfect, no matter what.  And she had accepted it.

"-What are you talking about Luna?! You're my sister and I'm sure they'll be extremely happy to see you again after a decade. How can you even say that! Have you seen how Lucas appreciates you, he even visits your parents every time he is in town." Tara replied, her voice emphasizing the last sentence, but with no hidden intention.

"Okay, then. I'll be there at 7. Is that okay?" Unconvinced, but still Luna agreed.

She never accepted anything material from Tara, no even a ride home. They had established that years ago, and Tara would never insist because she knew how stubborn her friend was.

Luna was more than proud, she had an internal battle to never allow anyone to treat her like garbage, just because her family wasn't rich, or because others have better cars, houses or more money.

Yes, she was ambitious, but most of all Luna wanted to be successful for her parents. They had tried so hard to afford her studies, for their little princess to become someone in life, that's why she would never let them down.
