By the end of the day, the wound from Gouenji's hand had disappeared without a trace but he kept the bandage on for the whole week because that's how long, he assumed, a human's wound would take to heal. He hated having to learn the ways of mortals because just when he thought he had learnt everything there was to know to easily pass for one of them, things changed rapidly and then he had to get to know everything all over again.

He didn't remember much of the day he became a vampire, it didn't matter anymore. He left everything behind and started wandering around to faraway places, places he had only heard the names of, to pass the unfathomable amount of time he had. Sometimes, he liked a particular place and settled there for a decade or two and worked. That's how he acquired the astonishing amount of wealth he had now. But nothing was particularly exciting to him; until one day he came across a girl standing on the sidewalk as he strolled aimlessly.

He stopped as she came in the line of his sight. This girl stood out in the scene in front of him, a sidewalk full of people in the marketplace buzzing with human chatter. She was dressed in all black, black knee-length, full-sleeved dress, black tights, black shoes and oddly enough black satin gloves and with it a giant black umbrella, sunglasses and a solemn expression on her face. Gouenji watched her for a while, with intrigue. It was a sunny day, and he had been playing a game in which he trailed along the shadows and let them guide him to any place in the city and in the evening he returned home. He had often discovered great places which no one else knew about.

The girl started walking again, rapidly leaving Gouenji's sight. He watched her go as long as he could and then continued his game of shadows. Moving through alleys and streets he circled the street only to suddenly come face to face with the very same girl.

"What do you want?" The girl spoke softly, looking up at him. She seemed completely unfazed and there was a serenity in her voice.

"Huh?" He looked at her with confusion.

"I saw you looking at me before. And now you're here again." She responded.

By this time, the sun had hidden behind a thick sheet of rainclouds and the entire sky grew dark. She took off her sunglasses and put them in her satchel muttering a few words of despise towards them. Her gaze then returned to Gouenji's face as she waited for him to answer.

"Oh i-it's just....you seem so different from the rest of these people, I was intrigued."

"Oh, you mean this?" She said gesturing up and down to her outfit, "Well I just love black a little too much." Her voice seemed to have opened up a little.

Gouenji wanted to make her stay a while longer but he didn't know what to say that wouldn't sound weird considering the fact that they were still pretty much strangers. Seeing him quiet, she started walking again. Fate then seemed to spring to work as right that moment it started pouring down. Gouenji turned to retreat as he came and found the girl turned as well looking at him.

"Can I...?" He began to ask the umbrella-bearing girl to save him from getting drenched.

"Sure." She immediately replied, a slight smile playing on her lips. He quickly got himself under the shade of the umbrella.

"Where to?" She asked.

"I was just going home." He sheepishly answered.

"I can drop you." She nonchalantly offered.

"Really? You don't mind?" He was surprised that the girl wasn't scared of a stranger.

"Nope. I don't have any problem." She shrugged and they began walking.

As they walked, she took off one of her gloves and extended her hand out to catch a few raindrops on her palm.

"I like the rain." She commented, lost in her thoughts.

"Well, it's better than the sun." Gouenji replied.

"Exactly!" She exclaimed enthusiastically as she looked at him. She seemed happy that he had agreed with her. She then started talking about a variety of topics occasionally stopping to ask for his opinions. Sometimes he agreed and other times he disagreed which did not bother her and she continued to ask him what was his reason for disagreement. Lost in conversation, they reached their destination.

As she said goodbye and was about to leave Gouenji suddenly remembered he had forgotten to ask her name.

"Kira." She gave a one-worded reply.

"When can I...see you again?" He asked with a little hesitation.

"I'll just appear out of the shadows whenever you'll want to see me." She waved her fingers around to gesture for smoke.

"What?" Gouenji looked at her in utter confusion.

"Geez relax I'm kidding." She burst into giggles, "Give me your phone, I'll put my number in."

Gouenji smiled as he recalled the first time he met Kira. He couldn't imagine how far they had come since then. Suddenly, Kira entered the dark room that was only lit by the moonlight coming through the huge window.

"Why are you sitting in the dark?" She questioned.

In response, Gouenji only gestured for her to sit beside him on the side of the bed. She followed as he said but looked at him with curiosity.

"Just thinking about the day we first met." He replied.

"Oh yeah, I remember. You were quite the curious cat that day. That's not even like you."

"What can I say?I just completely changed as soon as I saw you." He said it with obvious dramatism.

"So corny, so corny." Kira jokingly shook her head to show disapproval.

"What? It was in the movie I watched the other day." He shrugged.

"Watch better movies." She commented before they both broke into laughter.

"I wonder if we'll laugh just the same after I tell her my secret."
