Third Phase - Part 2

Third Person P.O.V.

The Third Phase of the exam is taking place at Trick Tower, a prison for long-term prisoners. The group has chosen partake in 6-on-6 battle with some of prisoners. Due to Tonpa's action, they have already had one loss. The next round is Gon against Sedokan.

"Now, then... As you can see, I'm not very strong. I don't really enjoy fistfight or other physical activities, such as running and jumping" Sedokan said.

"I much prefer that way, but I'm not good at using my head" Gon replied.

"As I thought, so I came up with a simple game we could both play"

"A game?"

"Yes, it doesn't rely on either mental or physical activity"

"What kind of game?"

Sedokan takes out 2 candles one each in his hands.

"We each light a candle at the same time. The one whose candle goes out first is the loser. What do you think?"

"Yeah! That's easy to understand. Let's go with that" Gon replied and point out his thumb.

"Okay. In that case... " Sedokan showed them the candles that have different size.

"...decide which candle you want to use. Press O for the long one, or X for the short one. This will be determined by majority rule"

"We have to choose one? This is a trap! Normally, you'd choose the long one, so he must have done something to the long one!" Leorio said.

"That would be the safe assumption, but it might be a trick, and he's actually tampered with the short one" Kurapika said.

"When you put it like that..." Leorio replied.

"Yes, there is no end..." Kurapika said.

"You've got a real dilemma there" Tonpa commented.

"When presented with a clearly uneven choice, people become suspicious and hesitate before deciding. Yes, this is a real dilemma. What's worse, if you make the wrong choice, the resulting mental anguish would be much greater than if the problem had offered 2 fair options" Kurapika explained.

'Wait, these guys didn't even think that there's one more possibility. The last possibility is that whichever we choose, he'll definitely give us the candle that have been tampered, and that is the highest possibility. Since he's a criminal and criminal will always using any means and the most dirty trick to accomplish their goal.

It's also true that the long one will burn a longer time, and there's still a chance to win the situation if anything happened. But if we go to the short one and something happened it'll be a straight game over. So it's settled, it's the long one' Y/N thought really fast in that situation. But even she has already known the answer, she hesitate whether to said it or not and decide to stay quiet.

Sedokan put down the candle behind him and sit down on the platform, "Take your time, this may be a majority decision, but you're free to discuss it. We have plenty of time" He said.

"Hmm... Hey, which one should I choose?" Gon asked.

"Damn... Which one should we take?" Leorio confused.

Some moment passed and Kurapika spoke out, "Gon, you decide! We'll abide by your decision, choose the one you think is best" Kurapika said loud enough.
