He runs towards the barn where he heard the blood curdling scream coming from. The barn was frail and falling apart as the smooth wind rocked the detached door back and forth causing an ominous creak to be heard. Surrounded by nothing but unkempt grass and chopped up pines, the odor faintly reminded him of camping. But inside, the barn was a different character, like it has been pulled out of a cheesy horror film, the walls were covered with sharp tools, and in the middle? A very dark puddle of red fluid soaking the fallen hay. What the? What is this? He thinks to himself as he takes in the horrendous sight in front of him. He walks in deeper into the barn with light feet unaware of what else can be around.
"Close your eyes Jake." Abby whispers from behind him. Causing him to turn around to face her.
"What are you going to do to me?" He questions, weary of her strange request. Backing up a little from where she stands.
"I'm going to show you something. Something that will help you help me." She calmly states, slowly walking towards him.
She gets up to where he stands, leaving only about 3 inches in between them.
"Close your eyes Jake, please." She quietly says, blowing a cold breath as she softly speaks.
Jake closes his eyes, and instinctively is on high alert, listening to every sound, feeling every movement, smelling every grotesque smell. Abby steps closer to him, now chest to chest. He freezes in place, thinking this will be his end. Instead, he feels soft, freezing lips collide with his, and a tsunami of images flood his mind with a crash. And a rush of wind sucked him into the school library.
"Hey Gale. Can I talk to you?" Abby asks her best friend with short brunette hair and piercing blue eyes. Jake thought she was beautiful when she saw her. Her eyes were captivating, like staring into the Indian Ocean during an early sunrise.
"Of course Abs. What's going on?" Gale curiously questions. Looking up from her calculus homework on the circular table in the back of the library. Jake looks over her shoulder and recognizes that she is impressively getting the answers correct. He looks up to Abby who is sitting just across the table from Gale. She looks distressed, tired...scared.
"He did it again Gale. I don't know how long I can keep this up. I'm afraid he'll do something worse." Abby chokes as tears pool in her eyes, making her grey eyes seem transparent, a few stray tears trickle down her cheeks and splash on to the table beneath her. Gale stops writing and drops her pencil with a clatter. She gets up from the table and walks over to Abby with arms wide open pulling her into a deep, warm hug. Jake watches as Abby's dam holding back her tears burst with immense force, letting all of her tears stream down her face like a fast moving river in the middle of a dark, grey forest.
As Jake watches, the more curious he is about who hurt Abby. Who is she talking about? He walks over to Abby and Gale and places his hand on Abby's shoulder. When he looks up, he is in a completely different scene, it's a dark, run down house. It's tiny, almost like a cottage. He hears whimpers coming from the basement.
He creeps down the concrete steps that lead to an old steel door at the bottom of the steps. As he descends the stairs, the whimpers get louder and louder. He slowey grips the doorknob, and with a shaky breath, "Creeeeaak." Sounds the door as he opens it to discover Abby on a torn up, stained, old mattress. She has mascara running down her red face. She looks to me in horror.
"No! Please daddy! I'm Sorry! I won't ever do it again!" Abby cries, looking straight into Jake's eyes. He hears a loud stomp coming from the top of the stairs, with a gulp, he turns and comes face to face with a six foot, bald, muscle head; who looked angry, but it looked like he was enjoying it. He walks right past Jake without hesitation and walks towards Abby who scoots farther into the corner she was in, shaking with fear.
