Ellie was lying in bed; the sun was non-existent as per usual. She didn’t want to get out of bed. She was hungry but it hurt to swallow. Cursing Dalton for hurting her neck and chocking her, she got out of bed to show that he could not affect her. No matter what pain he inflicted on her.
Her stomach ached with hunger so she decided it was time to face whoever was out there and sate her need to eat. Strolling into the kitchen in her long pajama pants and black tank top. As she entered all three boys were sitting at the table eating breakfast. Dalton looked her up and down but feigned disinterest as he looked back to his bowel of fruit. Alex almost chocked on whatever he was eating, and Tanner had to stifle a laugh at the awkwardness.
Walking to the full buffet, Ellie grabbed some weet-bix and coated them in sugar and milk. When she pulled out a chair and sat next to Tanner, she turned to him and asked, “Why do you eat real food when you are a bloodsucker?”
Before Tanner could respond, Ellie’s body hitched, almost aroused. She felt a sudden pull and need for Alex. She turned to him and if he felt anything, he wasn’t showing it. Pushing the feelings away she listened to Tanner’s response. “We get hungry too you know. We just crave blood and need it. But it doesn’t fill us like solid food will. Plus, we feel lighter and less gluggy if we eat healthy. We have a human anatomy.”
Dalton snickered and said, “That should be obvious.” Both Alex and Tanner frowned. Ellie felt anger built up in her from both the insult to her intelligence and the pain shooting up her esophagus.
From that point on, everyone finished up their food in silence. Alex and Tanner left the room to go about their day and Ellie and Dalton sat on either side of the large table, glaring at each other. “When can I go back to my room with my friends?” Ellie asked and thought with surprise, she now called those girls her friends. How weird.
“You cant. Can’t risk it. When you are on this level, you are under a higher level of security,” Dalton paused and thought about something hard, “But, you can go to school when it starts up tomorrow.”
Ellie totally forgot that she was now old enough to attend to the education these vampires supplied. But what was the point in an education if you couldn’t use it. She would be stuck here for the rest of her life. “Wow, such generosity D,” she stated, sarcastically.
Dalton turned to leave before Ellie said, “You didn’t have to hurt Alex like that. What I do is none of your business.” Anger got the best of her, she had unconsciously stepped close enough to him that she gave him a big old shove. Caught off guard he stumbled backwards. Oh, crap. He did not look happy.
