Aaron was finishing paperwork for a report when Sasha waltzed in. She waved at him before going to her desk. Giving her a few minutes to settle in, he walked over to her. “Anything happened?” “A lot.” She said. “I just witness a crazy car crash and I went to pay a visit to a friend of mine.” “I know two officers responded to the call. Nice work girl.

Anyway, who would that be?” “Thanks and you know her.” Sasha said. “She’s the owner of Taboo. Odette Langtry.” “Ah, Odette.” Aaron said. “How is she?” “She’s fine, but she told me things that you never mentioned to me.” “Like what?” he said. Sasha scoffed. “Like how Richard Cason was not only your best friend, but he was also your partner. The one before me. And how you lost him, which confused me.” “I guess I better come clean.” He said sliding a chair to join her. “Yeah Richard was my partner, but he was also my best friend. Aubrey did murdered him in cold-blood. I guess that was to get back at me and when I found out that Richard was dead, I was distraught. It was as if a piece of me was lost

forever.” “That’s why you’re so protective of me because you don’t want the same thing that happened to Richard to happen to me.” Sasha said. Aaron chuckled, “Exactly, which is why when you’re about to go home, expect to see a red 580 horsepower mustang following you.” Sasha looked at him smiling. “I’ll like that. Besides, you are my partner as am I to you. So don’t think that I won’t be watching your back as well.” Aaron laughed, “I guess we have a deal.” “We sure do.” Sasha said laughing. Once done, everyone was called for a meeting with the chief. “Several criminals have been running loose as of lately, but the main one is Andre Weston.” Jarrod said. Sasha gulped. He’s back! She said to herself. For me. “Now Weston is a dangerous armed man and he may have a posse, so I think some of you should go in large groups to find him. That will be all and good luck to you all.” Mutters sounded instantly inside the packed auditorium. Nausea and nervousness filled Sasha; she was aware that Aaron was staring at her from a distance with the veteran officers. Getting up, she vomit then splashed water on her now red face before changing into a pair of blue jeans, a white T-shirt, a blue jacket, and white sneakers, Sasha made her way towards the parking lot after checking out. “Sasha!” a voice called out to her. She turned to the voice. It was Aaron. “You’re not going anywhere by yourself anymore. And why are you not in uniform?” “The chief asked only rookies partnered with a pro or veteran wear casual and I know.” She said. “This is why I’m leaving my car here instead of driving. Where’s your car?” “Right there, but I see why Jarrod said that.” Aaron said pointing towards a red mustang parked in the west wing of the parking lot. “And why’s that?” Sasha said opening the door to the passenger side. “You’re dressing causal like me making us equal.” “Exactly. Now then shall we go?” she said closing to door once inside. Aaron smiled as he drove down Milton Street with a bang zooming past cars as he and Sasha made their way to Weston’s hideout. Several officers were already there and then, they begin to move in. Sasha tried to keep her breathing down, but to no avail. “Don’t be so nervous.” Aaron whispered in her ear. “I’m trying to keep calm, but I’m not like you.” Sasha said looking at him. Aaron pulled her inside the alleyway. “I know you’re not. Look Sasha, just be you. I know it’s weird being a rookie on the job while your partner is a veteran.” Film of tears clouded her vision. “I know, but…” she sighed. Aaron wrapped his massive arms around her. “Go on now. Let it out. I know you miss your dad and that’s the reason why you’re so nervous. It’s because you don’t the same thing that happened to him to happen to you; and that’s die on the job.” Sasha looked at him with watery eyes. “It’s not like that. It’s not me I’m worrying about dying on the job it’s you. You’re a risk-taker Aaron. You put yourself in danger all the time to protect the ones you love and care about and I appreciate-“Aaron brushed his lips over hers cutting her words, her thoughts. His kiss was warm, generous and giving, and when he had ended it, he looked deeply into her eyes. “For a short time I’ve known you, I’ve never developed deep feelings for someone I barely even know, but you it feels as if I’ve known you forever. I love your fire, your bravery, your determination, and your courage. And sure, you’ll get nervous, but hey, it’s part of the job. What
