“Has anyone heard or seen of Rookie Officer Sasha Mercado?” Sergeant Weber asked. “Last I saw her she was pulling out of the parking lot heading towards the direction of Bankhead Highway.” Donald Fields said. Timothy sighed. “Where’s her partner?” “He’s in a meeting with the chief of police.” Tiara Jones said. “This is bad.” Timothy said. Aaron Cunnington sat with Chief of Police Jarrod Schultz. “Aaron, I’m planning on making you a detective. I figured you’re the man for the job.” “And who’ll be my partner?” Aaron said. “Probably-“Someone pounded the door. “Come in.” Jarrod said. “Sorry to interrupt sir, but a serious matter has just occurred to our attention.” Lieutenant Armstrong said. “Well, what’s the problem?” “It’s one of the rookies.” Armstrong said. “Damn, what did they do now?” Jarrod said. “It’s not what sir, it’s who.” “Then who is it?” Lieutenant Armstrong swallowed hard. “It’s Sasha Mercado.” “That’s my partner. What happened to her?” Aaron said. “She hasn’t shown up to work and when detectives went over to her place, they discovered her car was there, but she was nowhere to be found and to top it off, blood splattered all over the floor.” Armstrong said. Aaron’s face burned with rage as he stalked out of the room. “Aaron!” Jarrod said. “Where are you going?” “TO FIND SASHA!” he yelled. “I’M HER PARTNER. I’M THE ONE WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO PROTECT HER.” With that, he stormed out of the station and to his car. Speeding down Bankhead highway, Aaron made a beeline to Sasha’s house. Once there, he walked inside. The place was a mess: Blood indeed splattered on the floor, tables turned over and couches cut like a saw. Aaron studied the blood noticing the shape of it swearing under his breath. “Someone must’ve hit Sasha from behind knocking her unconscious as she lay in her own pool of blood.” He said aloud. “Very good Aaron,” the voice said. Aaron turned to it his eyes widening. “Aubrey? What are you doing here?” Aubrey laughed, “Oh Aaron, you must be looking for Sasha. Well, she’s right here.” She snapped her fingers. “Adrienne, bring her out.” Adrienne came of the shadows with Sasha trying to wretch away. “I told you I’ll get you back Sasha.” Adrienne said with a laugh. Sasha mumbled. “What do you want Aubrey?” Aaron said. “It’s quite simple: you.” Aubrey said. “Wow you must be feeling guilty now.” “Of course I am!” Aubrey said. “I was wrong for cheating on you with Richard and now I want you back.” Aaron laughed, “You’re crazy Aubrey. When Adrienne finished the additional six months of boot camp, she busted you out of jail.” Aubrey’s eyes widened. “How did-?” “WHAT,” Aaron yelled. “YOU REALLY THINK I DIDN’T KNOW THAT YOU MURDER RICHARD IN COLD BLOOD? THAT’S WHY YOU’RE AFTER ME BECAUSE I’M THE ONE ARRESTED YOU. YOU THINK I’M THE REASON
WHY YOU WERE CHARGED FIRST-DEGREE MURDER FACING TWENTY-FIVE YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON. WELL I HATE TO BURST YOUR BUBBLE AUBREY, BUT YOU DID THAT TO YOURSELF. NOT ONCE IN OUR SIX MONTH RELATIONSHIP DID I EVER CHEATED ON YOU AND YEAH, I COULD’VE HAD DONE SO MANY TIMES, BUT I WAS TOO
MUCH OF MAN TO DO THAT.” “YOU KNEW MY SISTER LOVED YOU!” Adrienne screamed. “YOU CALL THAT LOVE?” Aaron said his eyes burning with intense rage. “LOVE IS BEING FAITHFUL TO SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT; NOT GOING BEHIND THEIR BACK AND SLEEP WITH THEIR BEST FRIEND!” Suddenly, Aubrey charged Aaron who sidestepped as she collide face first into the wall.
“AUBREY!” Adrienne screamed slinging Sasha tumbling into the bookshelves running to her fallen sister. “YOU SICK SON OF A BITCH!” she said turning to Aaron. “I’LL KILL YOU MYSELF IF I HAVE TO!” Adrienne pulled out a gun firing towards Aaron who dodged tackling her to the floor wrenching the gun from her hand and throwing it across the room. Adrienne raked his eyes punching him in the face. Adrienne laughed as she stood facing Sasha. “NOW BACK TO YOU BITCH!” Standing on his own two feet, Aaron
came behind Adrienne ramming her against the wall. He though he heard her scream but he was wrong. Instead, she yanked her arms around his neck her fingers digging into his skin. He went on a knee as Adrienne screamed in his ears. “YOU’RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE AARON! I’MMA KILL
YOU! “WANNA BET BITCH?” Adrienne looked up. Sasha had gotten to her feet a gun in her hand. “GO ON SASHA,” Adrienne screamed. “SHOOT ME!” Sasha looked hell on bent of shooting Adrienne, but Aaron had forced himself up lifting
a massive arm around Adrienne’s waist slamming her into the wall. Aubrey got up then charging Sasha who still had the gun in her hand. When Aubrey tackled Sasha to the floor trying to snatch the gun from her hand, Adrienne fought her way to stand snatching another gun and firing towards Sasha, but Aaron blocked sending the bullet flying in the air as it landed between Aubrey’s eyes killing her instantly. Adrienne screamed as Aaron cuffed her. Sasha breathed hard her eyes widened. Minutes later, police filled the house taking Adrienne into custody who was crying. Paramedics arrived taking the body of Aubrey Peters. “You all right?” Jarrod Schultz said. “I’m fine.” Aaron said. Jarrod turned to Sasha who was shaking uncontrollably. “Sasha, you all right?” he said. She nodded as Aaron carried her out. “Where are you going?” Dave Hester said as Aaron put Sasha in the front seat of his car. “THAT’S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS DAVE!” Aaron said speeding down the road. Aaron sighed as he drove onto Bankhead Highway heading towards Little Lyn River. He glanced at Sasha as traffic slowed. Lucille had been right. Sasha was tough. A smile crept his lips as traffic rolled on.
