A Broken Crown

Chapter Ten- First Mission

I recoiled at the person I saw in the mirror. That person was the queen my people deserved. If only I could be strong and brave like her. I silently reprimanded myself. I was about to go on my first mission. Now was not the time to doubt myself. I gathered myself and left the locker room.

I walked into the hangar and saw a single quinjet on the far side of the hanger. I looked at the clock on the wall. It was 1:15. There was enough time that I didn't have to run to make it to the quinjet on time. Taking my time I made my way to the quinjet. A ramp opened up from the quinjet. I walked up the ramp. The rest of the Avengers were already there and waiting.

Steve was the first to notice my arrival. A smile lit up his already charming face. Then the rest of the Avengers noticed my arrival. Smiles appeared on all of their faces. It was rare to see all of them happy at once.

Steve said, "Now that you are here we can begin. Stark if you will."

Tony said, "Well Alex you have got one heck of a first mission. Today we are going to assault a major Hydra base in Sokovia."

My hands balled into fists at the mention of Hydra. Tony momentarily paused when he saw my reaction.

Tony continued, "Yeah we thought you would want in on this mission."

I noddded. I proceeded to tone out the rest of the discussion. The rest of this discussion was mostly about the plane of attack. The only part I payed attention to was my role. Apparently I was supposed to ride in with Clint and Nat. I thought that was pointless. I mean I have wings. Why not let me fly air support with Tony? But I didn't complain. I was getting to go on the mission. That was good enough for me. I would finally get to vent my frustrations out on Hydra.

I loud cough snapped me out of my day dreams. The rest of the team was staring at me. Whoops. Looks like I had been caught not paying attention.

Steve said, "Nice to see your back with us Alex."

I said, "I was paying attention to what mattered. I ride in with Clint and Nat. Blah blah blah. I kick some Hydra but. Blah blah blah."

Steve said, "We were talking about you."

I said, "Oh my bad. What were you talking about?"

Tony said, "We were talking about how to conceal your identity. I brought a mask for you."

Tony handed me a mask. I took it from him.

Tony said, "That way any civilians don't see your identity."

Steve said, "Try it on see how it feels."

I slipped the mask on. It fit on my face perfectly. A beep drew Tony's attention. He looked down at his phone.

Tony said, "According to Jarvis we are almost there. So suit up."

A few minutes later we arrived at the drop site. I grabbed Clint and Nat and glided down to the ground. We quickly commandeered a jeep and drove off. Nat drove and Clint stood firing in the back. I sat in the passenger's seat slashing at any Hydra soldier who got too close to the jeep. A soldier flew up close to Nat. She opened the door and unleashed a vicious kick that sent the guy flying back. Another soldier tried to get Clint but Clint stabbed him with an arrow and returned to his shooting. A jeep pulled up next to us. Thor jumped on the jeep and destroyed it. I sent a thankful smile his way. Then a soldier ran up next to me. I unsheathed one of my katanas with my right hand and slammed the hilt of the katana into the soldier's face. Blood instantly spurted from the soldier's now broken nose as the force behind my blow sent him flying into a tree. Hulk ran in front of us throwing a couple soldiers with a growl. I pulled out one of Nat's pistols and began firing at nearby soldiers. Nat swerved the jeep to a stop in front of a barricade. I jumped out at the same time as Nat and Clint. I must say we looked awesome jumping that barricade in sink. In that moment I really felt like an Avenger like part of the team.
