Instagram. The one word that reminds everyone of 'Selfie Sundays', 'Man Crush Mondays', and 'Throwback Thursdays'. That was were the second instance of contact came into play between Bryan and I.
I was just sitting there minding my own business, scrolling through my Instagram and petting Ralph. The usual after school routine. Then the little person icon popped up at the bottom, only diverting my attention for a second. This was also usual. Having famous parents earns you many a follow request if I do say so myself. So I continued with my scrolling and occasional double tapping.
When I was finally done, I clicked on the little heart. Without my permission, my heart started galloping in my chest when I saw his picture and name. I immediately accepted and asked to follow him, which was also accepted moments later. I thought that that was the end of that and that I would be left alone to stalking his pictures. But then I received a Direct Message thingy. My eyes widened and I clicked on the inbox and viewed his picture. It was a simple, yet gawk worthy, selfie with a phone number as the message.
I squealed a little and then went to send him a response. I was ready to take a picture of my face, but once I caught my reflection I decided that maybe a picture of the forever picturesque Ralph would be safer. Then I typed a simple smile in the message.
I seriously contemplated the decision between calling and texting for at least two minutes, before finally deciding that texting would probably be the better choice. After all, you can't stumble over your words while texting. Hopefully.
So I put the number in my contacts and then sent a simple text.
Hey, it's Jessie :)
It showed that he read it and then the little 'typing' icon appeared.
Oh really? I thought it was someone else that I just gave my number to ;)
Haha, so funny. I'll just stop texting you now since I see there are other people newly introduced to your number that might want to talk to you.
He text me back after that, but I had already sat my phone to the side and was watching funny cat videos on YouTube. The life. That is, until my phone started to blast This is How We Roll by Florida Georgia Line. I groaned and picked it up.
"Yes?"I said to the person on the other line.
A snicker that sent surprising shivers up my spine,"Is this how you treat all of your friends?"
My eyes went wide and my mind worked frantically to come up with a response,"I..uh... I didn't know we were friends."
I cursed myself for mumbling and stumbling over my words. And we weren't even talking face to face.
As if reading my mind and deciding to make my worst nightmare come true,he said,"Hey! We are totally friends. In fact, I'll meet you and your other friend at that cafe near the school so that we can become the best of friends."
I opened my mouth to say no, before realizing how rude it would be. And also the fact that Sophie would kill me for ''turning down the chance of a lifetime'. So instead I heard a positive answer come out of my mouth.
"Awesome. See you soon,"he said and I could almost hear the smile penetrating the annoying accent that was starting to be not so annoying.
"See ya."
Then I hung up, my eyes open wide and my heart beating much too fast. Then I controlled myself. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out. Better. Now I only have to call Sophie.
