The rest of the week was pretty uneventful. Bryan and I continued to talk during our classes, the teachers having to get onto us often. We sometimes text out of school, him usually sending me random messages at odd hours of the night just to be annoying. So, I started texting him during Mrs. Burns’ class, one of the strictest teachers at our school. Let’s just say that he almost got his phone taken up yesterday. Mwahaha.
“You are an evil bitch,”he says to me, after I had stolen the last chicken nugget off of his tray during lunch.
“Whatever. You love me,”I say nonchalantly, before my mind finally catches up with my mouth and I pause mid chew to send a cautious glance over at him. But he didn’t seem to notice and was just staring sadly at his empty carton where the chicken strip used to be.
I sit there and continue to eat the chicken while willing my blush to go away. But, much to my misfortune, I glance across the table to see Sophie wiggling her eyes at me. I give her a wide-eyed glance and wave my hands frantically in a ‘stop being stupid before he sees you’ kind of way.
Bryan looks over at me with a smirk and at first my heart stops because I think that he has just seen my ridiculous interaction with Sophie, but then he says,”I was going to give you a King Sized KitKat, but now I’m not. Because chicken-nugget-stealing-women don’t deserve sweet chocolaty heaven. So, I’m just going to eat it myself.”
And true to his word, he pulls out a heavenly looking KitKat, and starts unwrapping it to take a bite.
“No, stop this hooliganism! Everyone knows that that is not how you eat a freaking KitKat! Get your shit straight, Jacobs. Just, hold on a second, and I will redeem myself,”I say and in a flash I am up out of my seat and zooming across the cafeteria and into the lunch line. I purchase another serving of chicken nuggets as quickly as I can and zoom back to the lunch table only occupied by Bryan and Sophie.
He looks up at me with a bright smile and happily trades the King Size for the carton of chicken. We both eat our food with joyous looks on our faces as Soph just sits there with a knowing smile on her face.
“Stop being so weird, Sophie,”Bryan finally says when he notices her staring at us.
She scoffs, “You two are just so obliviously adorable.”
I smirk, even though my cheeks are turning red, “That’s still better than being plain stupid.”
“Do you wanna go, Jess?”she narrows her eyes at me as she says this, though a smile is spreading across her face.
“Name the time and the place and I will be there,”I say, rubbing my hands together deviously.
“You know what I said about Sophie being weird? Yeah, well, I take it back. Both of you are completely insane and I think that maybe I should have picked better friends,”Bryan says, causing us both to roll our eyes at his obvious lie.
“We are plain awesome and there is no way in hell that you could have made better friends than us,”Sophie says in a ‘duh’ voice as I nodded along eagerly.
Bryan just laughs and shakes his head, “So, best buddies, are you guys free this weekend?”
Sophie and I both glance at each other knowingly and I bite my lip,”Umm, we actually are busy.”
“Both of you? What is it, like some girl’s night?”Bryan asks.
We look at each other once again before Sophie says, “Uh, yeah, sure.”
He gives us a weird look, like we are insane, which we are. So whatever. Then the bell to end lunch rings and we bid our farewells, before we split off into two groups-Bryan going to Gym and the girls going to English.
