Forceful blue orbs were on mine, intent on seeking answers that I could not provide.

"You were right, we shouldn't have contacted her, it was a dumb idea" I told him

"Can you tell me what you saw, help me understand" He tried

"No Danny" I became more direct "I don't want to talk about it, okay? I should go, and you should too" I attempted to step past him, but he was quick to move back in front of me

I was surprised, and now back to being uncomfortably close to his body. This was unusual for him, ridiculously so. He was becoming open, in a way that I wasn't sure was good or bad. He was making eye contact, moving closer to me than normal, he was breaking all of his own rules

"Would your parents be asleep?" He looked down at his feet, breaking our stare

I shrugged, looking at my house for lights.

"Dad is probably at work" I based on the lack of living room flicker where he would always be up watching movies "and Mum is probably in bed reading" I shrugged

He seemed to take the information in for a moment before briefly looking at me and turning. I stood motionless for a moment, frozen as I watched him walk up my porch, pausing at the front door

"What are you doing?" I half whispered, half yelled as I walked towards him, stopping opposite his body

"Will you invite me in?" He quirked an eyebrow, charming and using it to his advantage

I should have said no, I should have been blunt, rude in order to break our dangerous closeness apart, but I didn't. I pulled my keys from my bag and as quietly as I could, opened the front door.

Instinctively, I was tip-toeing. I was sneaking a boy into my house, and it wasn't just a boy, it was Danny, Danny Newscot. The thought alone made my stomach flip.

Successfully reaching my bedroom, I had realised just what was happening and the seriousness of it. I began to panic, needing to cover all basis.

"I'll be back in a minute" I told Danny who stood in my bedroom, his eyes already wandering over my private space

He gave a nod as I left, walking down the hall to Mum and Dads room. Carefully I snuck my head inside the ajar door, peaking for her body. I had expected her to be sitting up, her bedside lamp on, her eyes scanning over a self help novel. Instead, she was rolled on her side, her hands neatly tucked under her face. Her breathing was slow, her face relaxed as her eyes remained shut.
In a way, it was probably better that she was asleep, what would my excuse have been for getting home so early?
Slowly I closed the door completely, returning to my bedroom where I closed my own door, clicking the lock, just in case.

I took a subtle deep breathe in, releasing it before approaching his turned back

"You shouldn't be here, you know that right?" I began, recovering myself

He again nodded "I know that, but we need to talk about what happened"

"I already told you, I don't want to talk about it" I stood behind him, talking to his back

Finally he turned, his eyes returning to their usual routine, staring above my head "You don't think I have a right to know, we did this for me, for my family, remember?"

He had a point. I was beginning to sound like his grandfather, and then it hit me. Was this the solution he knew of? The one he denied Danny and I when we had visited him? It had to be. He couldn't do it, the reason they'd all died was because he couldn't do it, he couldn't ever give his life to save them.
