Ch1

As her eyes fluttered open, her fire red hair acted as curtains around her eyes. Bella could hear the faint footfalls approaching the room she sat in. Her body was soaked in water, her body ached and her head throbbed. As she went to hold her head she realized her wrists were cuffed to the back of the chair she sat in. She swallowed hard, tasting the blood as it ran down her throat. She felt around in her mouth with her tongue, noticing the missing teeth in the back. She let out a sigh and looked up, blinking, trying to adjust to the new found light. The door opened. A man with glasses and a medicine bag came walking in slowly. Bella narrowed her eyes at him as he sat in front of her.

He stared into her eyes for a moment, trying to get a read on her. Then he spoke. “Who do you work for?” He asked.

Bella let out a breathy laugh. “You really think it would be that easy?”

“Did you think it would be that easy to break into my factory to steal my elixir?”

She was quiet, studying him. She contemplated what his next strategy was. He had already tortured her, tried drowning her, pulled out her teeth, electrocuted her. She wasn’t budging. She was done being tortured though, and she was pretty sure he was getting impatient. If he was going to do anything, he would kill her, and that wasn’t an option. What she needed was an opportunity to strike.

“This is how it’s gonna go down agent. I’m done trying to squeeze it out of you, so tell me who you work for, and it’ll be a quick, painless death. Defy me again, and I’ll make sure it’s a slow, painful death.” He stated in a quiet tone as he leaned forward. “Now who do you work for?”

Step one, bait him. Bella moved her lips and whispered. Intrigued, the man moved closer. Step two, attack. In a swift motion, she brought her head back then forward, crashing it into his forehead. He fell to the floor immediately, unconscious.  Bella regretted her attack decision as she felt the blood drip down her face. She let out a sigh of frustration. Step three, free herself. She leaned forward, standing up on her feet and getting her balance. She angled herself against a wall and took several steps forward, then she ran backwards and crashed against the wall, the chair falling apart on contact. Bella brought her hands forward, wrists still cuffed with individual cuffs. Step four, get the cuffs off. She went over to the man and dug in his pockets for the keys. Step five, get out without being noticed.

As she unlocked the cuffs she heard voices approaching the door. Quickly, she looked around for something to defend herself with. She saw the orthodontist bag and rushed to it, pulling out a syringe and a vile with a yellow serum inside it. As she picked up the serum she noticed the white vile with a red liquid in it, the one she tried to steal. She stuck the white vile into her bra and filled the syringe as the door busted open.

“Hey!” The man in black shouted as he went for his gun. As quickly as he pulled it forward she kicked it out of his hand then kicked him in the face, knocking him out as his backup rushed in behind her. She elbowed him in the rib cage as he shot off his gun, grazing her back with a bullet. She spun around and stabbed the needle into his neck, injecting the liquid into him. Almost immediately he went to the floor, dead. Bella dropped the syringe and took both guns from the men and ran out, the building deserted and no one there to fight her or catch her. She let out a sigh of relief and dropped her weapons.

Placing her hand on her back, she felt the sting of her touch as blood ran down it. With a groan she started walking. She was still in the country, but she was nowhere near Virginia, and without her phone or anything to contact head courters, she was on her own, on foot. Not that she would call for her back up anyway.

The man that always had her back was her best friend, Luke Lenox. The two went to school together when they lived in Texas, along with their tech guy, Nick Carter. But Bella wasn’t on good terms with Luke, or so she said to herself. On paper everything seemed normal, but in between the lines Bella was grieving. On a previous mission 6 months before, Luke confessed his feelings to Bella. At first, she was conflicted, but thanks to her older sister Blakely, she realized she felt the same way. As she went to confess her love to him, Luke had already moved on.
