Ch5
Bella barged into her house, face hot with tears as she let out a blood curdling scream. Blakely and Travis rushed into the room, alarmed.
“Bella!? What happened?!” Blakely asked, concerned. She placed her arms on her shoulders.
“I’m an idiot! That’s what!” She blurted as she rushed to her room.
“What happened Bella?” Travis asked as they both followed her to her room. “Did something happen with Luke?”
“No! Nothing happened with Luke! And nothing will ever happen with Luke because of that bimbo!!” She screamed in rage as she pulled out the necklace Luke gave her for Christmas from her cherry wood jewelry box. In anger, she threw it on the ground and it shattered into a million pieces.
“Bella!” Blakely shrieked.
“That stupid idiot! Why can’t he tell he’s hurting me?! He’s supposed to be my best friend! He’s supposed to know when something’s wrong!”
“Bella, Luke isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.” Travis said softly as he bent down to pick up the pieces.
“He used to be!” She sniffled as she sat on her bed. “He used to always be there for me, know exactly what’s on my mind…He forgot my birthday.”
“Bella, I’m sure he didn’t mean to.”
“Well duh…but it still hurts.” She wiped her tears away with the back of her hand, smearing the make up on her face.
“What happened to your eye?” Travis asked as he caressed her cheek. “It’s purple. Did you get into a fight?”
“No, I’m fine.” She insisted as she pushed his hand away. Her phone beeped and it was time for her to go back to work. “I have to go back to work.”
“Bella, maybe you should stay home. Calm your nerves.” Blakely suggested as she took her hand.
“No, I’m fine. I had my cry, I threw my tantrum, now I have to push past this and move on. Clearly I’m wasting my time waiting for him. And Travis…if you tell Luke about any of this, I’ll shoot you in your knee caps.”
“With what gun?” He joked with a smirk.
She took the gun out from her night stand and held it up, an eyebrow raised as his face went pale.
“Oh, that gun…”
“Do we understand each other?”
“Understood.” He said with a nod. She placed the gun back in the drawer and walked out of her house and back into her car.
Bella and Luke took the early flight out to Paris. It was a long flight and they still had 3 hours left. Bella sat between him and the window seat in first class as she read a magazine. Luke was just now waking up. As he threw his arms in the air for a good stretch, he managed to smack Bella in the nose.
“Ow!” She exclaimed as she held her nose. Luke’s attention immediately shifted to her.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry! That was a total accident!” He said, as he bit his tongue, trying not to laugh.
“It’s fine.” She said simply as she continued reading her gossip magazine.
They sat in silence for a few minutes before Luke broke the tension. “So,” he started. “where did you burn off to yesterday? I turned around and you were gone.”
“I showed up, you didn’t say anything about watching you two make out for an hour.”
“We didn’t make out.” He lied.
She gave him a look. “Please, I may not have been there the whole time, but it doesn’t take a genius to know when they become a third wheel.”
“Third wheel?”
She sighed and turned more to him, giving him her undivided attention. “Yes a third wheel. After you…proposed, the two of you started making plans. I sat there for five minutes waiting for someone to talk to me, but that didn’t happen.”
“You could’ve said bye.”
“…I did. You just weren’t listening.”
“Oh…Sorry.”
“It’s fine.” She said as she sat right in her seat, opening her magazine again.
“So what do you think of Candice?”
“…She’s nice.”
“Nice? Just nice?”
“Luke, I had one conversation with her about work. I don’t know her.”
“Well, what was your first impression of her?”
“You don’t wanna know what my first impression of her is.” She thought about saying, but instead said, “I told you. She seems nice.”
“Oh come on, you gotta give me more than that! I’m marrying her for crying out loud!”
“Yes! You’re marrying her! I know!” She snapped as she looked up to see his confused face.
“Gee wiz, what’s up with you today?”
“Nothing, I just want to read my magazine. Can I do that in peace?”
“Sure, whatever.” He said as he pulled out his head phones. He sat their quietly for 5 minutes as Bella contently read her gossip, but of course all good things must come to an end. “Hey, my IPod died, can I use yours?”
“Oh my god!!” She shouted in annoyance. In a rage she pulled out her IPod and aggressively placed it in his hand then got out of her seat.
“Where are you going?”
“Somewhere quiet!” She shouted and locked herself in the bathroom.
Luke started to look around, noticing that people were staring at him. Either giving him a pity look or a death glare. He gave them a sheepish smile. “She’s in another mood.” He said and they all nodded in understanding. He looked to the IPod in his hands and started to look through her playlists. As he scrolled through he made a face of disgust. “Justin Bieber?!”
After several minutes Bella finally came out when a pregnant woman came knocking on the restroom door. She was forced to sit back down in her seat by Luke.
“Can you tell me what’s going on with you?” He asked, looking up at her.
“Nothing’s going on with me Lenox, I’m just a little irritated.”
“Why? Because I wanted to talk to you?”
“No, just stuff that’s going on in my life right now. I’m trying to deal with things.”
“Like what?”
“Would it kill you to stay out of my business?”
“I’m your best friend, so yes, it would kill me. Come on, you know you can talk to me, you always can. Tell me what’s wrong.”
Bella took a pause to gather her thoughts before she spoke again. “Tell me Lenox, what day did you propose to Candice?”
“Sunday?”
“And that day was?”
“The 18th. What does that have to do with anything?”
“Nothing, forget I said anything. Can I have my IPod back now?”
“Oh, you mean the one that’s infested with Justin Bieber?”
“Hey, it’s my taste in music, not yours. And the last time I checked it’s only a few songs.”
“Oh, because then it’s justified. He’s only what, 18? You’re 24?”
“…Yeah. 24.” She shook her head and put her headphones in, blaring her music so she wouldn’t have to listen to Luke talk anymore.
