Levi stormed into the office and slammed his palms on the secretary’s desk.  I stood close behind him, still stricken by the events that had just passed.  The secretary jumped at the sound of Levi’s hand banging the wood and stared at him wide-eyed.

“Levi, what in the world has gotten into you?”  She pushed her glasses up her nose gently.

“Where’s Mr. Lockwood?”  There was a demanding ring to his voice.

“He’s in his office having a very important conversation with Mr. Skyward; I really don’t think this a good ti–”

“I don’t care what he’s doing; this is important.”  I followed Levi as he marched to the principal’s door and shoved it open.

“No matter, we need to find that – Levi?  Alexa?  What are you doing here?”  Mr. Lockwood looked around Mr. Skyward to see us.  “Did you two get into another altercation?”

“No, we didn’t get into a fight with each other; we got into a fight with a spinderwell!”

Mr. Lockwood looked immediately taken aback and stood up out of his chair.  “Oh my goodness, are you two alright?”

“We’re fine.”  Levi muttered.

Mr. Skyward cut in.  “What did it want?”

“Her.”  Levi’s response sent chills down my spine.  I knew it was after me; it even said so.  But hearing someone else say it; hearing someone else confirm it, made me shiver.

“I beg your pardon?”  Mr. Lockwood looked utterly dumbfounded.  “How do you know?  Did it say anything to you?”

Levi shrugged.  “When I got to the scene, she was on the ground and the thing was hovering over her and ready to strike.  If I wasn’t on that trail and I didn’t decide to skip class this period, we might be discussing a whole different story.”

“Wait you skipped class?”  Levi stuck his hands in his pockets and shrugged his shoulders again.  “Never mind; we’ll discuss your disciplinary issues later.  Now Alexa,”  He turned to face me.  “Did it say anything – the spinderwell?”

I didn’t really feel like speaking, but I knew that the only way I was going to get any explanations – is if I did some explaining myself.  I grabbed a fistful of my hair at the top of my head and held it there nervously.  “Yes, it talked.  That’s probably the thing that freaked me out the most about it – the fact that it was literate.  And what it said I hardly understood.  It was all in hisses saying ‘it is the girl’ and ‘master will be pleased’ and stuff like that.”

Levi’s interest perked and he looked up at Mr. Lockwood with his eyebrows raised.  “You want to explain to me what’s going on?”

“I can’t explain it all now, but the puzzle pieces do fit together…”  His voice trailed off in thought.  He put his hand to his chin and stared at the ground beneath him.

Frustration was building up inside me as a silence engulfed the room.  With every passing second that I stood there, motionless, I felt the urge to start yelling – start begging for answers.  I knew if I didn’t get any soon, I wouldn’t be able to compose myself.  I gritted my teeth together in order to keep myself calm.

“Alexa, do you want to try and tell us exactly what happened from your perspective?  From the beginning of the period to when you arrived at the office.”  Mr. Skyward spoke gently; probably as to not set me off.

I exhaled and nodded.  “I was in study hall and I was getting kind of bored, so I decided to go for a walk and help clear my mind a little bit.  The next thing I know there’s a huge spider – spinderwell thing trying to attack me, or eat me, or god knows what.  Just before it tried anything, Levi came and got rid of it.  It left saying it would be back or something along those lines.  I was really in shock and confused – as you might expect me to be – so I fled before Levi could say anything.  And as if things couldn’t get any worse, I was almost kissed by this disgusting freak.”  I rolled my eyes and almost gagged at the thought of Drake and his intentions.
