Erwin: Hanji. We fight Titans we don't have time for this stupid holiday!

Armin: Halloween isn't actually that stupid. According to my book, Halloween was originally created because back a couple 100 years they believed that on the night of October 31st the dead could have one night to walk among the living. Being mindless idiots they believed all of this and would dress up as the dead to avoid being recognised as the living. As every mortal sighted would be brought back to the grave with the dead at exactly 12 o'clock at night when the day of Halloween was over.
However, the pumpkins do have an origin related to the day. Some people had different beliefs and instead of dressing up like the dead would offer the dead fresh pumpkins or sometimes fruits with pretty patterns carved into them. And the candy was the offerings richer people would give. However, not many who believed in this were rich anyway.
