The roads were quiet; something that was usual when it came to the small town of Hawkins, Indiana. The sun was rising in the east; shining a bright orange light into the girl's eyes as she drove. She squinted in pain as she attempted to pay attention to the empty road in front of her as well as blindly rummaging through her glove compartment to find the item that would save her sight.
Her fingertips grazed over the metal frame of her signature pink, heart-shaped sunglasses before she smirked to herself and grasped them with content. The girl shook the vibrantly-colored glasses so they would open prior to her sliding them up the bridge of her nose.
The rays of light ended up slightly penetrating her eyes, but she could still see the now one car in front of her.
Music blasted loudly as she cruised down the empty road with ease while tapping a lit cigarette between her index and middle finger with her thumb to get rid of the ash at the end.
A lot of people her age wouldn't be smoking in general, let alone this early in the morning. It wasn't something that was trending, either; she was just told that it would make her feel so much better, that all the stress would be whisked away into oblivion... at least it was every time the tan end of the cigarette met her lips.
She was about a few blocks from her destination when she passed a house that she was too familiar with; the house of her best friend.
The girl could see the boy who was her age locking his front door behind him as she abruptly stopped in front of his quaint home.
"Babe!" She shouted with a smile.
The boy with an ivory snapback, that perfectly rested on the crown of his head, smirked at his friend as he strode towards her bright red, convertible 1957 Ford Thunderbird.
"You know, I never really liked when you'd pick me up for school. It's usually the other way around," the fawn-haired boy scoffed playfully.
The girl laughed to herself before arching an eyebrow at her friend.
"How so, Johnny, my boy?"
He wouldn't detach his eyes from the nearly empty road in front of them when he answered.
"The guy usually picks up the girl."
The girl couldn't contain her laughter as she had burst out into near tears.
"Dude," she managed to choke out between inhales before she sarcastically replied. "I'm so sorry that I don't meet your stereotypical gender roles."
Johnny smirked.
"Buckle up, buttercup," the girl grinned as she shifted her gear into drive with one hand and firmly gripped the steering wheel with the other. "We're going into hyperdrive."
