When I dropped Matt's collar everyone started yelling. I looked over at Ethan and mouthed "we're leaving." He started walking toward Emily and I as we opened the door and left. We decided to take the elevator.

When we got in, Ethan immediately asked, "What happened?" I took a deep breath. "Matt cheated on Emily with Kelsey and he needed to pay," I said. Ethan covered his mouth with one hand. He hugged Emily. "I'm so, so sorry, Em. He didn't deserve you. He's such a douche." He said. "Thanks and I know," She responded.

He had no right to treat her like that. To cheat on her and still act like everything was okay? How could he cheat on someone like Emily? Like Ethan said, he was a douche. How can he live with himself?

If I was dating Emily, I would never let her go. I would never cheat on her like Matt did. He broke her heart but she was trying to hide it.

We get to the bottom floor and walk out the doors of the building. We're greeted by a cold wind blowing past us. Emily starts to shiver a bit, so I take off the sweater and give it to her. "Put it on," I said. She sniffles a bit and takes it, rubbing her eyes. She slides it on over her top.

Ethan raises an eyebrow at me when Emily checks the time. "Shut up," I mouth to him. Ethan smiles and pulls out his phone and calls for a cab.

"Yeah, just one please," Ethan says, then covers the microphone, "Emily, you're sleeping on our couch. It's too late. I don't want anything bad happening to you."

She nods, turning to look at Ethan, then looks down at her feet, crossing her arms. She was heartbroken and was trying to hide it. I wanted to embrace her in my arms and never let her go but she was too fragile now. I fix the hem of my shirt and shift a little bit closer to Emily, who was still teary-eyed, pushing her long, brown locks of hair wrapping around her face away and wiping her eyes.

"Emily," I say, startling her a bit, "Just know that whatever I did or said was for you. He never deserved you." She looks up at me and a tear rolls down her cheek and falls onto the ground. She tucks her head into the crane of my neck and shuts her eyes and I wrap my arms around her.

"Thanks, Gray." I hear her muffled voice say. I take a deep breath and shut my eyes, resting my head on hers and feeling my cheeks heat up. I wish she was mine. I wish I could kiss her and tell her I love her but all I can tell her is that I'm sorry. I'm sorry for what some idiot did to her. I'm just a friend supporting another friend. That's what she thinks of me.

The cab finally comes. Emily sits in the passenger seat and Ethan and I sit in the back. I lean my head against the window and look out at the lights of the city. I check my phone and look at the time. 1:30 A.M. I rub my eyes and shut it off. The lights of all the buildings glow like the stars, as cheesy as it sounds. There's just something so mesmerizing about them.

The driver finally gets to our building and stops in front of it. We all get out and I grab my wallet from my pocket and hand him a twenty. He gives me a small smile and drives off. All of us walk in and walk over to the elevator.

When we get to the apartment, Ethan unlocks the lock with his key and lets us in, shutting it behind us. "Is it bad that I'm kind of...hungry?" He says, tossing the keys on the counter and rubbing his stomach. Emily chuckles a bit.

"I'll cook for you if you let me borrow your 4OU hoodie to sleep in," She says. Ethan bites his lip. "Fine, it's better than Grayson cooking for me," He says.

"Ethan! That was rude. My food is delicious, you just have poor taste," I say, walking to the linen closet and pulling out sheets for Emily to sleep on.

"Nah, you just have no skill." I hear from the other room while I walk back to the couch.

"Dude!" I scream, dropping the sheets on the couch. "I will cook for you right now. Emily go put on the hoodie," I say, walking to the fridge.

"What are you even going to make?" Ethan asks as Emily walks back in, wearing the hoodie.

"My famous cheese omelet."

They both burst out laughing. "What? It's two in the morning. Do you expect me to make you a five-course meal?"
