"Grayson!" I yelled with tears in my eyes. His eyes seemed like they were full of pain and his body seemed like it nonetheless.
He was covered in cuts and bruises and had a cast on his arm. I covered my mouth in shock. I sped towards him and planted a kiss on his forehead while sitting at the edge of the bed. "What happened?" I asked as a tear rolled down my cheek.
"Hey, Emily, I'll be okay. Don't worry," He said as he wiped the tear away with his thumb. "Ethan and I got into an accident. This taxi came speeding towards us and one thing led to another and-"
I saw him tear up and I placed my hand on his. "You don't need to tell me any details. All I need to know is that you're okay. How's Ethan?" I asked.
He pointed to the patient next to him covered by the curtain.
I got up off the bed and walked around Grayson's bed only to see Ethan, asleep. And in casts and bandages. I started to tear up at the condition he was in. I didn't want to wake him so I walk back over to Grayson, who's peering over the curtain at Ethan. I intertwined my hand with his and his head whipped around to me.
"What did the doctors say about him?" I asked.
He sighed. "They said that he's fine and he suffered some trauma but they said he's bound to wake up anytime soon. I still can't get over the fact that this was my fault," He said.
I pushed a strand of hair out of his face. "Grayson. This wasn't your fault in any way," I told him, gazing into his eyes.
He teared up again and bit his lower lip. "Of course it was, Emily! I didn't see the car coming and I should've been looking at the road instead of Ethan. He unbuckled his seatbelt and I had to make sure he was safe," He said guiltily.
"Gray, that doesn't mean that it was your fault. You were looking out for him!" I say.
He throws his head back onto his pillow. He's hurt. Not just physically but emotionally. I lay my head on his chest and he places a hand on me. I slightly smile to know that he's not fully broken. "Grayson?" I ask quietly after a moment of silence. "Yeah?" He said back. I took a deep breath.
"I love you," I said.
I felt his heartbeat speed up. I looked up at him. His eyes widened and his lips were slightly parted in shock. He didn't say anything for a minute and I wondered if I shouldn't have said anything. He was just in a car crash, of course I shouldn't have said anything. I should've just comforted him.
"I love you too, Emily."
My eyes widened too and a smile grew on my face because of the five words that just came out of his mouth. I couldn't help but ask, "Really?"
He nodded. "Ever since the day I met you, I knew I would fall for you," He said. I planted a kiss on his lips and a tear fell out of my eye out of happiness. I hugged him and placed my head in the crook of his neck. He wrapped his arms around me tightly.
And for a moment, just that moment, it felt like everything was okay.
