caught
fighting her inner demons
she feels a shock
something quite common for her

she can't fight back
standing alone
among strangers with no backs
she's worked her fingers down to the bone

trying to get out
from under the surface
when she shouts
she becomes a burden

so she keeps clawing
hoping that one day
to come crawling out
more than half way

when she kicks
and screams
there's nothing she can fix
these images stuck in her dreams

so her young eyes close
to hide the world
her demons take a deadly dose
her eyes covered, fingers curled

screaming into her knuckles
she fights off the voices
her tears dropping into puddles
with shards of their faces

she spends her day,
a smile on her face
with nothing to say
for she has given in to darkness' embrace
