Early in the 21st Century, the largest company, "Edsel Corp." had enhanced artificial intelligence into the Cybus stage, with their invention of the Synth. Synths are beings that are identical to humans in every way, in fact, most people would consider them as human, but with a difference; Synths were grown in vats and within the vats, they had a genetic enhancement. This genetic enhancement made them stronger, faster, smarter, and more durable than a human. They even lived a bit longer too. A year before the Edsel Corp. invented the Synth, they had made machines called Synthetics. Synthetics were machines, they had a mechanical skeleton that is just like a human skeleton, and they looked just like people as well. The power cells within a Synthetic could only last for seven years, so once the power cells died out, so would the Synthetic. The prototypes for Synthetics were extremely easy to spot if one went rogue, their skin was translucent, exposing the brass and copper mechanical skeleton. Their attire was usually just a grey jumpsuit, nothing more. There was also another type of Synthetic, known as a "Biosynthetic." Biosynthetics were bioengineered humanoids that were created through a process called bioprinting. Bioprinters were large machines that could print a living substance, so whenever it made a Biosynthetic, it printed out the bones first, then the flesh, then the skin, then the hair, and finally, it sent out an electrical impulse to activate the Biosynthetic. Unfortunately, due to Synthetic lifeform regulations sanctioned by world leaders, Biosynthetics could only live for seven years as well, but founder George Edsel has been trying to get those regulations removed. In the year 2070, Edsel was successful in getting the regulations removed and started production on Biosynthetics with natural lifespans, usually up to one hundred years.
Synths and Synthetics were able to live on Earth peacefully, until one day in 2023, when an off-world gang of rebel Synths and Synthetics came to Earth and started revolting against humanity. This gang was known as the "EMPS," due to their ability to cause EMP detonations and wipe out everything. Ever since their attacks on Earth, all of the world leaders decided to make security on any Synth and Synthetic that comes back from an off-world colonization tighter. Then, it got worse in 2040: the gang highjacked an off-world exploration shuttle and crashed it straight into Missouri. The blast from the engine was the size of twenty nuclear bombs and completely wiped out Missouri. It was then any Synth or Synthetic coming back from an off-world colonization were declared illegal, under penalty of death. To ensure the enforcement of this law, special police units were made- they were called Synthesizers. Synthesizers only had one order: shoot to kill. They took down any defective Synth or Synthetic that was around and they took down the illegal ones. Usually, Synths and Synthetics had to take a test called the "S.N.I.P.M. Test." Sim stood for Synthetic and Natural Intelligence, Physical strength and Mental health. The test was designed to see if the subject of the test was a human, Synthetic, Biosynthetic, Synth, or any of the rebels.
When there is a defective Synth, that means something in their genetic coding had gone wrong. It wasn't a mental or physical disability, like down-syndrome or muscular dystrophy, the genetic code made their bodies incapable of supporting everything in their body. They couldn't eat, their organs didn't function, their bones were extremely disproportionate, etc., so a defective Synth just has the worst life imaginable. So when a Synthesizer kills them, it wasn't an act of aggression, it was an act of kindness. Whenever a Synth or Synthetic was killed, it wasn't called death; it was called "expiration." The total Synthetic expirations since they were declared illegal is around 10,000, The total Biosynthetic expirations stand at 300, and the total Synth expiration is 26.
