"Hindi na ba tayo magpapaalam kila Joanna?" Tanong ko habang pinagbubuksan n'ya ako ng sasakyan.
"No need. I'll just ring them later." Aries answered. Inalalayan n'ya ako papasok ng shotgun pagkatapos ay umikot siya papunta sa driver's seat.
We were in a comfortable silence a few minutes into the road.
"I'm sorry about what happened," I said, glancing at him.
Aries pursed his lips. The sleeves of the white dress shirt he's wearing are rolled up to his lower elbows. The strap of his Oris Divers Sixty-Five watch contrasted his moreno skin. His strong arms maneuvered the steering wheel.
Papasok na pala kami sa drive way ng hotel, hindi ko man lang namalayan. Halos 15 minutes lang ang inabot ng biyahe namin kanina papunta sa rest house nila Ian pero ngayon wala pa sigurong 10 minutes, dumating na agad kami.
Tahimik ko siyang pinanood. He pulled the hand break first before facing me.
"Did Arfred insult me?" He quietly asked.
My heart hurt when I remembered what that bastard said. Tumango ako.
Aries shut his eyes tightly, his lips tightly pressed, making his jaw clenched.
"Hinayaan mo na lang sana. . ."
Saglit na nagsalubong ang mga kilay ko.
"And let him judged you?" I scoffed. "Look, Ries, I'm genuinely sorry if I ruined your night with your friends. Ako ang kakausap kila Joanna para humingi ng tawad. I tried to be calm when he went to me and talked, kahit na hindi ako komportable at nakakairita ang pagmumukha n'ya. But when he said things about you, hindi ko na napigilan na patulan siya."
Bumuga ng hangin si Aries at naiiling na binalingan ako. He licked his lower lips before proceeding.
"He has tendency on hurting women, may mga kaso na siya na sinampa ng mga ex-girlfriends n'ya noon. I'm worried about you, Ri. I appreciate you standing up for me and defending me, pero kung ang kapalit naman non ay ang safety mo—-then I'd rather have him or other people insult and drag my name to the dirt."
I stared at him in silence.
"So what?"
"Are you fucking kidding me?" He exasperatedly looked at me.
"Even though I know the difference in physical strengths of men and women, I am confident with mine. I can defend myself." I pointed out.
Aries deeply sighed.
"Yeah, I can tell that. Sa Carshow pa lang alam ko ng may maipagyayabang ka." He smirked then he shake his head. "I guess I can't do anything with your fighting spirit. Kung makikipag-away ka sa susunod, sana yung kasama mo ako. And please, choose your battles."
Ngumuso ako. I get his point.
"I always do. At times, mas nauuna lang talaga yung bibig kong magsalita."
Aries chuckled. "You got quite a mouth, yeah. I know that."
I rolled my eyes at him when I noticed his change of tone.
"Shut up."
It was almost 2 AM nang umakyat na kami sa room namin para magpahinga. Mahaba ang oras ng biyahe mamaya pabalik ng Davao, kaya kailangan namin ng energy para mag-drive at para gising sa biyahe.
"You're not gonna buy fresh fruits and vegetables?" Aries opened up when we reached the road where there were a lot of vendors by the street.
Alam ng lahat na kapag napunta o dumaan ka ng BuDa, you shouldn't miss buying fresh fruits and vegetables. Bukod pa sa presko ang mga 'to, mura rin.
