Roman is given a sense of hope for his future with Julian. Julian is given dread over his feelings for an enemy. But neither of them will stop at anything to profess their love to one another, even if it must be done in secret and private. But their love gives them the strength to overcome any obstacle in their path. Time gives them opportunities when adults are away, adding a sense of danger to the already. Their love, truly, puts gasoline on a fire. And this fire is one that will not burn out.
