Me and You

Chapter 5

Dani POV

"EVERYONE IT'S TIME FOR DINNER!" I heard Christina yell. We stood up. I looked at my beautiful girlfriend. I gulped. 

"Dan, it's fine. We'll be okay. We have Lisa on our side, too." She reassured me. I nodded, and walked out of the room, Kaitlin following me.

I lead her to the table, and had her sit next to me. Lisa sat next to Kaitlin. We said Grace and started to eat. Well, the rest of the family did, I just picked at my food.

"Dan, you okay? You've barely eaten." Lauren asked quietly. 

"Yeah I'm fine." I lied, taking a quick bite of my food. She sighed, but turned her attention back to Amy. I felt someone kick me under the table. "Ow! What?" I asked Kaitlin. 

"Lisa said we should do it now." She whispered. I took a deep breath and we stood up. A silence fell over the table.

"Guys, me and Kaitlin have something to tell you." 

I started, looking over at my girlfriend. "Dan-Dani and I are." She grabbed my hand. There were a few gasps I heard. "Together." She finished. I looked around, seeing my family's faces.

Kaitlin POV

No one was talking, just staring. My cheeks burned red. Lisa got up and whispered to us. "C'mon you two. Let's go." We followed Lisa outside. She got in one of their cars and got in after her. While she was driving, I noticed Dani crying, silently.

"Dani, hey it's okay. It doesn't matter what they think, I'm still gonna be here with you." I said. She looked at me with red eyes. 

"Are you sure?" 

"Dani, I'm more sure than anything in my life." She gave me a half-hearted smile.

"Thank you." She said. 

"Anything for you." I replied. Lisa stopped the car. I looked at where we were. An ice cream place. I looked at Lisa like 'what the heck'. 

"It's like her favorite place ever." She said. I nodded.

We got out of the car and went inside. There was only a couple people sitting in the back.

Lisa ordered for us and Dani and I went and sat in a booth. "Dani, are you okay?" I asked, rubbing her back. 

"I-I-I don't know." She stuttered. "I thought my family wouldn't care. I don't get why they didn't do anything." "

I didn't think so either." Just then, Lisa came back with our ice cream. She sat down across from us.

"Lisa, do you think we did anything wrong?" I asked her. 

"Gosh no. I don't get it. Dani finds someone, and they just do that. I really can't believe them." She said. 

"Thanks Lisa. At least you understand." I said.

The door to the small shop flew open. Lauren and Amy came in and found us. Lisa spoke. "How'd you find us?" 

"Dude, we bring Dani here anytime she's sad. How could we not find you?" Amy said. 

"True." Lisa agreed. I avoided eye contact with Lauren and Amy. 

"Anyway, we're here because we wanted to apologize. We didn't mean to seem like we didn't accept, because we do." Dani and I looked up.

"Y-you do?" Dani asked, shakily. They both nodded. 

"Dani, we don't care if you're with a girl or a boy. Only what makes you happy." Dani smiled. 

"Thanks guys. How did everyone else take it?" She asked. Amy and Lauren looked nervous. 

"Christina didn't like it. Neither did dad." Lauren told us. Dani sighed.

"I knew they all wouldn't accept." She said, tearing up again. Ugh, I hate when Dani's sad. It sucks that not all her family likes us together. It hurts me, too.

"Dani, not everyone is going to. And it doesn't matter if they do or not. I'm still gonna be here with you. No one's gonna come between me and you." I said. I wiped her tears with the pad of my thumb and kissed her cheek.

"Awwww." Lisa whispered. We looked over at her. "What? I'm a sucker for romantic stuff." She said defensively.

After a few minutes, we went back to Dani's. We walked in the door. Dani took one look at Christina then ran up the stairs. I followed after her, finding her face-down on her bed. I sat next her, rubbing her back. Just then, Lisa came in. "Um I'm really sorry, but my dad is making me ask you to leave." She said. I sighed and nodded. I leaned down and whispered to Dani, 

"Goodnight Dan, text me if you need me."

I got up and headed downstairs. All I got was silent stares. I ran out, a couple tears spilling out of my eyes.
