"For whatever
we lose (like a you
or a me), It's always
our self we find
in the sea."
E.E. Cummings
Quickly. He's drowning. I swam as fast as I could. I forcefully put good thoughts in my head. I will save him and then go trick or treating. I'll marry Cali and I'll make up with Cass. Everything will be okay. I won't turn to sea foam anymore. I bitterly laughed. Cummings is right about one thing: we really do find ourselves in the sea. I'm going to prove to Nemmy that I can get along with them.I found him sinking in.... the fire zone. Oh no. Us mermaids wouldn't dare go in there. It's filled with fire coral. For those of you who don't know, fire coral give a powerful sting like a jellyfish with its invisible tentacles. Your skin could become irritated or have severe pain. If there's too much contact you could vomit or even have nausea. In extreme cases, death. I have to go in. No matter what. I'll make it up. I'll do it. I swam in, trying to be careful. His dark hair floated back in forth with the waves. He was unconscious, but alive. He was wearing a black muscle shirt and silver basketball shorts. I reached out to grab his arm.
Zap! "Ow!" My left shoulder had been zapped. We were in too close. I wrapped my arm around his waist. Zap!! Zap!!! Throb! Sting! Zap! My tail threatened to give up on me. "Just a little longer!" Zap! My body was quickly weakening. I covered him so he wouldn't get hurt. I took every blow, despite the fatal consequences. I swam back the way I came, my vision blurring. I was losing. I reached some random cave a little far from the beach house. Luckily a green beach skirt lay nearby. I heaved myself out and dried myself the old fashioned way: rolling in the sand over and over. I put my skirt on and dragged him out quickly. I was starting to lose myself. I collapsed to the ground. My body was throbbing and aching. I felt so nauseous. I think... I need to rest.

"Seren!!" "Serena!!" "Serenity!!" "Wake up!" "What's wrong with her?" "Fire coral. She saved his life, but put hers in danger. You idiot! Her heart stopped twice because of you!! You killed my sister!! Let me at him!! I'll kill you!!" "We want you out of here!" "He's even lucky she decided to let him live!" "Banish him!" "I don't know why you took an interest in my fiancée, but leave her alone." The people were silenced out of nowhere. "I know what type of person you are. Your the type that has no regard for other creatures out in this world and puts them on a pedestal that they don't want to be on. She told me what your father does. You people disgust me. Skinning mermaids like they're prizes. Are you going to skin us too and collect species? Huh? Answer me!" I noticed that Camdon hadn't said a word. Why? Oh no. I feel-I leaned over the couch I was on and threw up. I coughed up some water. I was awake. "Serena!" "Serenity!" My body stung badly. "What's going on? Why can't I move?" Wait. I saved Camdon. "You hurt yourself saving him," Cass pointed in Camdon's direction, where he was standing alone. I winced as a stinging sensation filled my body. "Ahhhh!" "Quick, get the kelp gel!!" Kelp gel is a little invention of ours that helps with any bites, stings, cuts, and infections. It was basically a miracle worker. It was applied on my skin; my body violently shook from the shock of the stings. I screamed in fright. "Everyone, leave us!," Cali ordered. The pod immediately scurried away after sending their wishes of my recovery, and a hateful glare at Camdon.
Cali grabbed my hand, and I cried out in pain. I had been stung there too. Cass just kept applying the gel in a rush. "Cass. Cass. Cassius!" He looked into my eyes. All I could see was fear. Fear of losing another sibling without doing anything. "Serena. I. I don't want to lose you!" Tears welled in his eyes. "Please. Let me help," Camdon finally spoke. My brother's face contorted into anger. "You did this! You did this to my baby sister!! Look at her goddamnit! Look at her suffering! Are you satisfied with the results?? Well, are you?!" Cali stoked my hair out of my sweating face. "Are you alright?," he softly asked. "Caliouse. It hurts. It hurts so much," a tear fell down my face. "I know my pearl. I don't like to see you suffer. I'll fix this, I promise." I screamed as the stings intensified. "I know I messed up. But please let me make it up. I have a way to fix this."
