Chapter Four

Chara walked into the quiet house, shutting the door behind her.
"Hello..?" Chara called very quietly, a hand on the wall.

"Oh! Chara, stay there momentarily!" Asgore replied from somewhere in the house.

Chara looked down casually, observing their brown boots. The house was silent, until Chara could hear Asgore walk down the hall.
The former king seemed almost too large for the high ceilings as he walked towards Chara, wearing a pastel yellow t-shirt and jeans.

He smiled and kneeled down, looking at Chara for a moment. His Orange and blue eyes met Chara's,
Determination meeting patience and bravery.
Blood meeting water.

Asgore ruffled Chara's short, curly hair, resulting in it falling in Chara's face as well as in many directions.
Chara giggled, before sighing,
"What's up, dad-guy?" They asked, smiling.

Asgore smiled slightly, before explaining,
"Oh, well, I'm just taking you to get a check up somewhere where they can accurately read your vitals and understand your situation. It's our current Royal scientist, Doctor Alphys. She has an expansive understanding of determination, and I am sure she can understand a bit more than you or I." He said calmly,

Chara frowned,
"O-oh. Okay." They said.
Doctor Alphys — she ran the determination experiments. She also had Chara's tapes.
There might be a chance she would tell Asgore — but Chara could make sure that didn't happen

Asgore smiled,
"Are you ready?" He wondered,

"Uh. Yeah, I suppose." Chara nodded, complying hesitantly to the plan.

Asgore sighed, frowning.
"I know you don't like doctor's too much, but I'll be with you the entire time, and I promise nothing bad will happen." He promised, standing up, and holding out a hand for Chara.

Chara held Asgore's hand as the tall goat monster lead her out of the semi-cozy home and down the cool streets.

The leaves were green, and every once in awhile Chara saw a leaf that was yellow.
"How long have you been on the surface, Dad? I've lost count.." Chara admitted,

Asgore smiled,
"Well, the monsters have been freed for a little over a few months. They are still adjusting to 'seasons', but for the most part they've adjusted." He said.

Chara nodded,
"It's nothing they haven't seen before, but I wonder how they'll feel about autumn arriving. The trees will shed their leaves — perhaps a few children will be worried. I don't know." They murmured.

Asgore nodded,
"Yes, but I'm sure they'll adjust." He chuckled quietly, a deep laugh that could be compared to a bass drum.

The air was still, as was the world. Wind didn't blow, people didn't wander.
"Does the world feel.... empty, to you?" Chara wondered, looking around.
The thought started to bring panic to Chara's heart, making her very restless,

Asgore frowned,
"Well, not really. Just quiet. There are no birds local, due to winter approaching,
You seem bothered, and rather pale — are you okay?" He asked,

Chara coughed quietly, feeling a wave of nausea run over her.
They tasted nothing, but felt the texture of cold sludge churn inside of her.
"I'm fine." They said simply,
"How far away is... wherever we're going?" She wondered, leaning against Asgore lightly.

"Less than half a mile. Do you see that white building? That's where we are going." Asgore replied, pointing to a semi-close building.
It looked like a miniature laboratory.
Two stories tall, tinted windows...
A bit scary.

"Okay." Chara murmured.

They walked in silence towards the laboratory. Eventually, after a short walk, they made it to the driveway. Walking up, they suddenly heard a sharp crash, and the front door opened as a reptilian woman stumbled out, wearing a messy lab coat.
