***Lucas' P.O.V.***
My meeting had gone painstakingly slow. My head of security, Mark, had been complaining about teenagers jumping the fence and feeding the guard dogs. Nothing new had been brought up, and even if something had been, I wasn't paying attention. My thoughts kept wandering to Brienne. I couldn't wait to go home and see if she was still awake, maybe talking to Rachel about whatever, or just laying in bed watching TV.
When the meeting was over, I raced home. My heart was beating with anticipation and I grew more nervous the closer I was to Brienne.
I didn't understand the feelings I had when I'm around her. My mind and heart were constantly trying to take over and it just left me confused in the end.
I made it to the top floor and stopped when I saw Brienne's door slightly open. I tapped on it lightly and when I didn't hear an answer, I pushed it open. Brienne was sleeping on her side, facing away from me. Rachel was sleeping next to her, snoring slightly.
I smelled something off in Brienne's room but couldn't think much about it when my right hand, Mike, came running towards me.
"Security has been breached." He breathed out.
I muttered silent curses and followed hastily behind Mike. We made it to my office right down the hall next to the library and found Mark and a few other security officers in there.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"Ace is back, and he claims to be looking for Brienne."
I groaned aloud and opened my door to find a teary-eyed Rachel. She was breathing hard and about to run down the stairs when she saw me.
"It's Bri, s-she won't wake up."
My heart dropped into my stomach. I sprinted to Brienne's room to see her still laying in the same spot as before when I first saw her. I rushed to her side and turned her on her back and felt for a pulse along her smooth, pale neck. Her heartbeat was faint and slow. I then smelled that strange smell again and realized what it was.
"Have you all been drinking?"
"Yeah, we drank a bottle of wine."
"Gesù Cristo." <Jesus Christ>
I then picked up Brienne bridal style and ran to my room. I told Rachel to open my door and she moved out of the way, allowing me to lay Brienne on my bed.
"How much did she have?" I asked Rachel.
"About, half the bottle...," She trailed off.
I turned back around to gently wake Brienne up. I grabbed her small shoulder as I sunk to my knees on the ground beside the bed. Shaking her gently, I said her name. After a few minutes, she still wouldn't wake up.
"What's going on? Is she okay?" Rachel's voice kept wavering.
"Shifters can't handle a lot of alcohol, it affects us differently. She drank way too much and at a bad time. I need her up just in-case something happens."
"What's happening?"
"Security has been breached. Do you remember that guy that attacked us in the woods? Well, he's here and looking for Brienne, so I need her up and mobile."
I moved my attention back to Brienne and started to shake her just a little bit harder, raising my voice every time I called her name. She finally groaned and shifted in her deep slumber. I let out a sigh of relief and continued to call her name.
She finally opened her eyes and looked at me. I laid my head on her chest and let out a deep sigh. "Mi hai spaventato, Brienne." <You scared me, Brienne.>
"Your hair is soft." She chuckled as she played with the ends of my hair.
I stood and picked Brienne back up. She squealed and wrapped her arms around my neck, scared by the sudden movement. Then she started giggling, and under any other circumstance, it probably would have made me smile.
I made my way to my bathroom and gently sat Brienne up against the counter under the sink. She looked at me as if she was in deep thought, and I yearned to know what she was thinking about.
"Okay, so here's the deal, in this cabinet is a small hiding spot. When you crawl in you have to feel along the wall for a loose board, when you find it, slide it over to the left and it will reveal a tiny crawl space. Both of you can fit. It goes behind the fireplace, you will be able to see everything that goes on, but no one will be able to see you. Don't make a sound and don't unlock the door for anyone. If I need you, I have a key and can get in, are we clear?" Rachel and Brienne both nodded.
I stood back up and opened the cabinet door and let Rachel in, Brienne followed close behind before giving me one last glance behind her shoulder. I closed the door and made my way out of my room when Mike ran up to me.
"What's up?"
"Brienne got drunk."
"Oh no,"
"Yeah, what's the update?"
"He still won't leave. Where are the girls?"
"Hiding in my room."
"Are you sure you wanna do that?" Mike questioned. "Ace is sneaky, if you leave them alone then there is a chance that he could get a hold of them. They are safer with you."
I hated to admit it, but he was right. I unlocked my door and walked into the bathroom and told the girls to come out. Brienne came stumbling out and I picked her up, earning another squeal from her. Rachel looked at me questionably but followed me when I explained everything to her. Brienne just stared at me blankly.
I made it to the balcony that looked down at the front door and sat the girls where they were out of sight. "Do not make a sound. Not a peep." I said sternly.
I stood up and walked out so Ace could see me.
"Ah, your Majesty, finally, I've been meaning to talk to you. You know, you should talk to your staff about manners."
"Cosa vuoi?" <What do you want?> I asked.
"Straight to the point, I respect that. But if you must know, I have come to collect a certain girl. I was wondering if you've seen her? Five-foot-three maybe, dark brown eyes, blonde hair? She attacked me the other day and almost shifted, which was very impressive by the way, she looks fantastic with black hair."
"She's not here, Ace. I'm sorry to say but you've wasted your time."
"Ah, see that's the problem. I know she's here. I have proof. And I need her with me."
"She's not safe here. I had to take her someplace else to ensure that she was."
"Bugiardo." <Liar.> Ace said and I could tell his patience was wearing thin. "But that's okay, you may think that she is safe, but what about her family?"
"Her parents were murdered. But I bet you already knew that didn't you?"
"Are you suggesting that I did it? Well, you will be glad to know that I didn't. But no, that's not who I was talking about. Right now, I have someone sitting in front of her Aunt Maggie's house, ready to light it up. You have three seconds before I tell him to blow it."
"I already told you that she wasn't here."
"Okay," Ace tapped his earpiece. "Light it up."
"Wait!"
