Leo couldn't handle it. He was tired. Tired of thinking about his mom, the memories of her were banishing of Leo's mind. He didn't want to forget. He loved her. 'You killed her. 'Leo reminded himself. Of course, he didn't mean it, but he knew he had started that fire.
Standing on the deck of the Argo II, looking at the sunrise, Leo felt tears falling down his cheeks. He whipped them as soon as he felt them. He couldn't cry, not now, when everything was falling apart and the world was about to be destroyed. He thought about Percy and Annabeth, how could they handle this? Maybe they couldn't, but at least they had each other. Leo had nobody.
He ran his hand through his wavy brown hair and sighed. 'It's okay.' He told himself, but he knew it wasn't. He heard footsteps behind him and smiled. He turned around to see Hazel and Nico. Nico di Angelo. Leo felt something in his stomach, that boy gave him shivers all over his body. They had never talked properly but of course, Nico didn't talk to anyone except for Hazel and still, why would Nico want to talk or even be with Leo?
He waved his hand at Hazel and she smiled. "Hi, Leo."
"Morning Hazel," he turned to face Nico. "Hey, di Angelo," Leo said holding his gaze on Nico.
Nico looked away and said nothing; Leo was used to it so he turned to Hazel, again. "So...what brings you over here Hazie?" he said.
She stared blankly at Leo for a few seconds. Leo lifted one eyebrow while Hazel's face filled with concern. "Are you okay Leo?" she said worriedly.
Leo frowned. Why wouldn't he be...Oh, right, the tears. His eyes must be puffy. He faked a big bright smile. "Yeah, of course! Why wouldn't I? Are you worried Levesque?" he said a little way too fast.
"Oh Gods Leo, you are impossible," she said rolling her eyes, and then added. "Oh and time to go to sleep Valdez, my turn to watch over Fest..."
Suddenly a loud shout filled the deck. "HAZEEEEEEL!!!" Hazel recognized Frank's voice and her face changed to alert-mode. "COMIIIING!" she shouted back. "Just a sec," she turned around and ran to where the voice came from.
Leo was so focused at Hazel's back, now disappearing from his sight, that he was surprised by di Angelo's voice. "You are not okay." He said with a voice barely audible.
Leo's smile banished. He looked at Nico directly in the eyes. He had a piercing gaze so he got lost in it until Nico cleared his throat waiting for an answer. Leo realized he had been staring at Nico for nearly a minute and he blushed. He looked away and answered with a weak voice. "What?"
Nico stared at Leo for a while and rolled his eyes. "Nothing." He answered and turned around to leave.
Leo watched Nico until he got lost in the shadows. Now he knew he couldn't pretend he was okay around Nico. He could see through him. Nico di Angelo knew he was broken.
