The two awoke some time later to the sound of someone "aww"ing.
Josh slowly blinked his eyes open, finding Tyler's mom standing in the doorway, hands clutched over her heart.
"Joshua Dun? You're in bed with my son? You looked so cute sleeping together," she gushed, causing heat to rush to Josh's cheeks.
"Mom," Tyler groaned sleepily, rubbing his eyes as he slowly sat up.
"I didn't know you two were friends," Mrs. Joseph said.
"Boyfriends," Tyler corrected, forcing himself to open his eyes despite the weight of his eyelids.
"Boyfriends!?" she exclaimed. "Since when?"
"A few days ago," Tyler shrugged, stealing a glance at Josh who blushed down at his lap.
"I'm so happy for you two. I just came up to tell you, Tyler, that dinner's ready."
"We'll be down in a minute," Tyler assured, grinning as soon as his mom left the room.
"See, Josh? She took it so well."
"Yeah, but your parents don't care. They're supportive. Mine aren't like that."
"You never know," Tyler shrugged. "Lets go eat, I'm starving."
After a surprisingly not-awkward conversation at dinner about Josh and Tyler's new relationship, Josh decided he was going to call his parents. He wanted to tell them he was spending the night at his boyfriends house. Yes, boyfriend. It would be much easier than seeing their reactions in person.
He sat on Tyler's bed, fingers anxiously tapping the number into his phone. Tyler sat beside him, rubbing his back in a comforting way that helped ease his worries slightly.
"Hello? Where are you?" Josh's mom answered.
"I..." Josh hesitated. "I'm at my boyfriends house. I'm going to spend the night, if that's okay."
"Boyfriend?" Mrs. Dun questioned, very obviously confused.
"Yeah..." Josh spoke slowly. "My boyfriend, Tyler Joseph."
He heard his mom gasp. "Oh! You mean that cute little boy that wears the skirts! He's your boyfriend?"
"Yeah," Josh repeated, lips slowly curling into a smile.
"Well, aren't you lucky?" his mom laughed, instantly relieving the anxiety that was churning inside of him.
"Yeah, I am," Josh laughed. "So it's okay that I'm staying?"
"Sure, just make sure you're on time for school tomorrow."
"I will be, I promise."
"Okay, Joshua. I love you."
"I love you too."
He hung up. He turned to Tyler, eyes squinting as he gave a toothy-grin.
"She still loves me," Josh said simply, eyes glazing over.
Tyler let out a relieved sigh, pulling Josh in for a tight hug. Josh couldn't help but cry. He was ecstatic, but there was an underlying sadness. He worried for nothing. His mother still loved him. He treated Tyler so badly in public all for nothing.
"I love you, Josh," Tyler grinned against his chest, knowing the older was crying.
"I love you too," Josh sniffed, pulling away to wipe his damp cheeks. "I'm sorry I was wrong. I should've listened to you."
"It's okay," Tyler assured him. "I promise. Want to watch a movie and cuddle?"
Josh nodded, yellow curls bobbing. The two curled up under the blankets, legs intertwined like rose vines. Tyler thought about how Josh could be described as a rose. Intimidating and strong on the exterior, but actually soft and needy on the inside.
Tyler let his head rest on the yellow hue's chest, focusing more on his heartbeat than the Adam Sandler movie playing. Each time he heard the rhythmic beat, he tapped his finger on Josh's wrist.
"What're you doing?" Josh asked after a while, glancing down at the small boy.
"Copying your heartbeat," Tyler explained, continuing with his actions.
"So precious," Josh whispered, placing a kiss atop of the brunette's hair.
"I'm happy you're alive," the smaller spoke.
Josh smiled, mumbling into the brown locks, "I'm happy to be alive."
