The plane came to a stop on the runway. People started getting up to leave the plane. I reached down and grabbed all my stuff. And headed off the plane. Not prepared at all for what I was about to see. I walked into the tunnel and out to the airport.
I haven't seen my father since I was 5. I saw him in a few pictures on Facebook but that's about it. Was he even married? Do they have kids? What if I'm older than all of them? My thoughts are interrupted by the sound of a man calling my name.
I turned my head to the right to see a guy in his older 30's waving his hand calling my name. I caught his eye, and he must have noticed because he waved me over.
I slowly walked over, grabbing my luggage on the way over to him. Pulling it behind me. Thank god for wheels!
I slowly approached the man, and took in his presence. He seemed very relaxed. Like he had a easy life. Dressed in a casual button up shirt, with tan jean shorts that went to his knees. Soft tan sandals thrown on his feet. I took notice of the nice watch he had presented on his wrist.
"Hi Clarissa! I'm Michael, it's nice to finally see you again." My father said slowly as if he was talking to a smaller child who was just brought home after a tragic accident.
I looked him in the eyes, and noticed the way he seemed very uneasy. He was definitely nervous. "It's been a while. A long while" I replied to his comment, and stuck my hand out to greet him.
In return he shook my hand.
"I think you'll like California. It's much different than Missouri. For sure! My car is parked out front. We can place your suit case and head down to the house?" He asked as if it was my decision. I couldn't help but nod. I wanted to get out of this airport and see what the world had for me to explore. We left the airports nasty aroma, and entered straight into the warm air. It was so fresh against my pale skin. My dad was so tan compared to me. Most of the people I've passed in the airport are darker than me. I've been more of a inside person the past summer.
We walked a few steps until we reached a Mercedes parked perfectly into a parking spot. My dad reached and opened the trunk for my to stick my luggage in.
I gently slid it into the trunk, not trying to scratch anything or damage it. I definitely didn't want to get on his bad side the first day.
We left the airport. Pulling onto a busy highway, heading southwest towards the beach side. Meaning he must live close to the water. Which has honestly been a dream of mine. Missouri was definitely nice and all, but my dreams consist more of being out and meeting a new lifestyle. And I guess a fresh start in California wouldn't be a bad idea.
We passed over a bridge that showed the bright blue water below which mirrored the bright blue sky above. I think I'm really going to like it down here. I just have to give it a chance.
"Are you excited to start school?" My father seated to the left of me asked.
I looked out the window as I replied, "I actually am. I want to try and meet some new people this year, and have a good senior year" I smiled to myself as I said it.
"You'll like Ledgewood Highschool, my neighbor Carter goes there. He says the school is pretty good." He says and gives me a small smile as he makes a left turn at a stop light.
I want to ask the question I've had on my mind since I left the airport. Does he have any kids?
"Me and my wife spend a lot of time with the neighbors family. They have 3 kids, and they like to swim over in the pool." He says as we take in the view of the approaching water.
He has pool I think to myself as the car comes to a halt in front of a nice sized house. It's not crazy big, but you can tell lots of time and effort was put into the architecture of the house.
I stare up at the windows of the house. They display white blinds. I can't help but play with the rose gold ring placed on my finger. I spin it around when I get nervous.
We pull the car onto the nicely paved driveway, and get out of the car. I grab my stuff from the trunk and pull it up the steps. Which ended up being a major fail and I have to carry it. My dad offers to help, but I reject and grab my stuff and walk up the stairs.
We get to the top steps and a tall blonde lady opens the front door to the grand house. Holy crap, it's so much bigger inside than I expected.
The lady with the blonde hair sticks her hand out to greet me. I take her soft hand in mine."Hi, I'm Clarissa Williams. It's nice to meet you." I shake her hand and give her a warm smile.
She returns the smile. "Hello darling! I'm Sophia Keillins."
My dad steps inside and wraps his arm around his waist. Proving that the beautiful lady in front of me is most likely my step mother. Which doesn't seem that bad.
My dad takes the leading role and breaks the silence. "If you'd like to set your stuff down. Your room is the room upstairs. You're the only child that's living here. So you can pick between the 2 bedrooms up there." He gestures up to the staircase.
I give him a nod, and take my stuff with me as I walk up the stairs. As I reach the top of the stairs I intake the view. There's 2 bedrooms and a bathroom that splits them. I walk straight into the room that sits before me. I look around. It's not that bad. I set my stuff down on the bed.
I couldn't help but take a look out the window. There's a huge pool outside in the backyard. I take a look to the right at the neighbors backyard to notice a group of guys. And not to mention their all shirtless. All 12 of them.
You know, California might not be as bad as I thought. I thought as I stared down at them. One of the boys with brown hair looked up and caught my gaze. He smirked and I blushed. I closed the curtains and sat down on the bed.
I whipped my phone out of my pocket and sent my mom a quick text.
Clarissa- hey. I made it. Dad picked me up and we're at the house. Love you. Talk soon.
Moments later I received a text back.
Mom- you too. :)
I slid my phone into my pocket and got up off the bed. I decided that leggings and a hoodie wasn't appropriate attire for the weather down here. And that I should probably change.
I decided to throw on a white romper with some gladiator sandals. And headed down stairs.
School starts in 3 days, and that gives me plenty of enough time to figure everything out. Time to get started I thought. As I sat down at the table and peeled a banana.
My dad came downstairs and told me that him and Sophia are going to get some groceries for tonight because the neighbors are coming over for a pool party. And that he's giving me some extra cash to get a bathing suit.
I decided I might as well pick one out. Here goes nothing..
