Against All Odds

Chapter 4

~Jess's POV~

"Jack!" I yell

"Jack I missed you!"

I begin running towards him.

He has on that cocky little smirk.

Be when I go to hug him he backs up, and begins running.

"Jack come back!" I don't hesitate to chase after him.

Nash isn't far behind me.

"Jacks not here Jess!" he yells

"Stop, please! It's all in your head!"

But I don't listen.

I keep running after Jack.

I know it's him.

It has to be.

"Gilinsky why are you running from me! Come back!" I scream as I see him begin to go closer to the now huge waterfall.

"Jack!" I yell reaching out my arms for him.

But it's too late. He jumps off into the rocky falls.

"NOOOOO! JACKKKK!" I cry, crashing to the ground.

"What happened to forever..." I whisper as my arms drop to my knees.

Tears pouring out of my eyes.

An out of breath Nash picks me up. Laying me over his shoulder. He rubs my back, trying to relax me.

"It was your mind tricking you Jess. He's gone." He says softly. "It's okay. Shhh."

So I was just seeing him? But.. But it felt so real! I- I thought I could get one last hug..

For the first time it actually hits me.

Jacks gone. And he's gone forever. I mean, I will never see him again. Maybe if we both go to heaven. But if not, I mean "HI JACK" was literally the last thing I would have ever said to him.

It's not fair.

I let Nash bring me back to my lawn chair, and him and Hayes go get the bikes from the woods.

"You gonna be alright?" he asks patting my arm.

I nod my head.

As alright as I can be..

Taylor, Shawn, and Cam are on the porch. And Matt, Aaron, and Carter are still messing with the water.

Why can't I be happy like they are right now?

How are they so okay with life when one of us is missing. It just doesn't make sense.

Cam looks down at his phone and smirks, answering whoever was calling.

He walks off the porch and stands behind the Pathfinder. My seats only a few feet away. And he doesn't even notice I'm sitting here.

So I listen in.

Oh shush you know you would too.

"Hey Daisy." His tone of voice.. He seems so pleased.

"I miss you too babe." My eyes widen.

Babe.

"Yes baby. You just wait until I get there. Your gonna need a new bed" I can hear him grinning.

"Ew!" I almost yell.

SHIT.

That was not supposed to come out.
