Flora is the plant life of a planet. The basics of the plant is something learned in school. You would think that is it. But here are my ideas and tips about this subject:

Ideas:

1. Large plants as hosts to smaller plants. This is basically having fungi like attributes added to the smaller plants. This is an usual aspect to plants. Typically they would cooperate if the goal is similar. But if life on a planet doesn't have fungi. This be the next best thing. Therefore the idea. Play around with the appearance, it can be as dull or colorful.

2. A web network of roots. This is not a science fiction. It is inspired by Redwood trees. The concept is sharing within the same species is caring. It can be highly advantageous.

3. Larger plants as "stepping stones" to smaller plant's growth. Tomatoes and a few other plants do it. So go ahead and use this idea. Vine plants pulling up to reach the sunlight.

4. Plant parts imitating insects. Again some plants do this in real life. But for the concept of pollination, cleverly tricking insects to pollinate other plants. But I am going further with this.

Here is the idea: Tricking larger insects, birds, mammals, and reptiles. Imagine an oversize plant that is part pitcher plant and part fly trap. The snatched animal is killed then liquefied to feed the plant. It is a gross idea. But in Science Fiction scenario, it is a good opportunity to add a horror aspect to the story.

5. Plants imitating poisonous plants. There is a clear advantage to this.

Tips:

1. Plants do communicate by smells. This is a fact. I've killed weeds and the smell triggered other weeds to release the stinging sap and tougher roots that hold the ground more.

2. Plants do not survive alone. They depend on the wind or animals to spread and multiply. After all, that is how plants in real life do it. What kind of animal is up to the writer.

3. Planets full of life need plants, or fungi, sometimes both like in Earth. Without them, it be hard for life to exist on only bacteria.
